Here's what Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, said in their first quarter earnings call today:
"Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players, as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day. Unit sales on PlayStation and Steam were also up over 60 percent year-over-year."
Matt Cox, SVP, GM of Call of Duty had this to say about the launch:
“Thank you to our players around the world for making Black Ops 6 the biggest Call of Duty launch ever. Our goal from the start has been to bring this great game to as many players as possible wherever they are, however they play. Black Ops 6 is an amazing game, and the response from the Call of Duty community has been incredible. This is only the beginning. Nuketown is only days away and Season 1 is right around the corner. We’re just getting started.”

If you can't find a dozen games that sound fun on Steam within 5 minutes, that's a you problem, not an industry problem.

This shit is why we can't have nice things.
I feel like my Steam account is an embarrassment of riches. So many nice things. I don't imagine Activision was ever going to make anything I found nice, nor does it appear they're taking resources from other nice things.
Oh. So the complaints about GaaS shovelware, soulless AAA dreck, creatively bankrupt garbage and trend-chasing mega failures like Concord by both, gamers and industry insiders alike (e.g. see recent Disco Elysium threads), must all be imaginary. Gotcha!
Have you purchased any of that lately? I know I haven't. It's pretty easy to avoid.
Of course not. But it's called looking at the greater picture instead of only one's own individual needs and wants. The industry has really been in a state of decline as of late, and CoD continuing to be as successful as it is, is not helping because people in power at the publishers are going to be drawing all the "wrong" conclusions from it instead of changing direction and trying something different.
Personally, yeah, I have a backlog that will last me until the day I croak so I could theoretically not give a shit but the world would be a weird place if everyone would only utter any criticism or opinions over things that directly affect them personally. I guess it's the totalitarian dream to get people to shut up but we're not there YET so I will continue to spout my dissatisfaction over the (sad) current state of affairs.
IOW: Just enjoying my Statler and Waldorf old grumpy man shtick, dude. You wanna take that from me, eh? You wanna take that from me? You'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands!
