Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Launch Sets Records

Activision Xs the announcement that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the "biggest ever Call of Duty 3-Day Opening weekend ever." A graphic shows Black Ops 6 is number one in total players, hours played, and total matches. It's not stated if it surpassed the $800 million earned by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II during its opening weekend, but availability on Game Pass increases engagement at the expense of sales. Here are quotes on the milestone from the brass:
Here's what Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, said in their first quarter earnings call today:
"Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players, as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day. Unit sales on PlayStation and Steam were also up over 60 percent year-over-year."

Matt Cox, SVP, GM of Call of Duty had this to say about the launch:
“Thank you to our players around the world for making Black Ops 6 the biggest Call of Duty launch ever. Our goal from the start has been to bring this great game to as many players as possible wherever they are, however they play. Black Ops 6 is an amazing game, and the response from the Call of Duty community has been incredible. This is only the beginning. Nuketown is only days away and Season 1 is right around the corner. We’re just getting started.”

This shit is why we can't have nice things.

I feel like my Steam account is an embarrassment of riches. So many nice things. I don't imagine Activision was ever going to make anything I found nice, nor does it appear they're taking resources from other nice things.

Oh. So the complaints about GaaS shovelware, soulless AAA dreck, creatively bankrupt garbage and trend-chasing mega failures like Concord by both, gamers and industry insiders alike (e.g. see recent Disco Elysium threads), must all be imaginary. Gotcha!

Have you purchased any of that lately? I know I haven't. It's pretty easy to avoid.

Of course not. But it's called looking at the greater picture instead of only one's own individual needs and wants. The industry has really been in a state of decline as of late, and CoD continuing to be as successful as it is, is not helping because people in power at the publishers are going to be drawing all the "wrong" conclusions from it instead of changing direction and trying something different.

Personally, yeah, I have a backlog that will last me until the day I croak so I could theoretically not give a shit but the world would be a weird place if everyone would only utter any criticism or opinions over things that directly affect them personally. I guess it's the totalitarian dream to get people to shut up but we're not there YET so I will continue to spout my dissatisfaction over the (sad) current state of affairs.

IOW: Just enjoying my Statler and Waldorf old grumpy man shtick, dude. You wanna take that from me, eh? You wanna take that from me? You'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands!

But I completely disagree. There are so many more good games today than 20 years ago. It's easier to find them, it's easier to avoid the bad ones. Yes, the bad ones are frequently doing egregious things, but the overall trend isn't that games are bad. They may not be to your taste, but my parents hate how scifi and fantasy has overtaken film and TV, doesn't make those things bad, just means that they're no longer the target audience.

If you can't find a dozen games that sound fun on Steam within 5 minutes, that's a you problem, not an industry problem.

So refreshing to see a Microsoft CEO of any description talking about (in public, no less!) the exceptionally positive impact that game development has on the company's bottom line! When Gates was company CEO, he had problems talking publicly about xBoxen and Games for Windows at the same time... It was challenging for him. Gates is gone from Microsoft, but unfortunately he has taken his penchant for silly ideas guaranteed to garner attention, and shifted to endeavors in which he can do some real harm if his often irrational impulses aren't checked.

Coming on strong in Bill Gate's array of IMPOSSIBLYGOOD™ products, is none other than...the nutritious, and truly delicious line of Gates' own livestock feeds for humans, his latest line of plastic turkey meats (not to be confused with "plastic wood," I hear!) Gates was profoundly dejected recently when a Florida appeals court upheld a statewide ban on his artificial meats! Gates was quick to offer some heartfelt advice to the roving bands of consumers in mourning over this recent "progressive" setback:

"You must remember my fallback line for when the going gets tough, as when lesser minds reject my obviously superior problem-solving abilities" Gates said, sniffling dramatically for the camera. "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger!", Gates intoned, as he casually flipped a fried, chocolate-covered locust into his mouth from a heaping plate of them before him, crunched down loudly on the crispy critter, and audibly sighed with pleasure.
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)

Could be quite a few people like me, that haven't played a CoD in *years if not over a decade*, but chose to look at the story missions just because it's on Game Pass.

I'd never buy this game in a million years, but I absolutely destroyed the single player campaign in like 10-15 hours on Hardened. I've already uninstalled it and will probably never touch it again unless I decide to go back for Veteran difficulty. That said, I did feel like the single player campaign was very well done, and has some of the best looking characters in a FPS. *really good* animation quality

I recently forgot to cancel my Xbox PC Game Pass sub after buying it for a month to play a game I didn't want to buy.

I saw that I could play Black Ops 6 with the sub I have left. So, I said to myself; what the heck, why not? It's free. I unticked everything I did not need to install, which came down to about 80GB-100GB install size in the end.

And then it started downloading the full package anyways, over 200GB. Screw that.

The SP campaign is actually quite good, with very varied missions and good quality voice acting. The MP, so far, is very smooth and rather fun considering I've played almost every CoD since the first (though certainly not enjoyed them all). The only issue I have on Series X is disconnects once daily, clearly less stable than MW3 for me. Also, while the new twisty turny jumping diving thing is good for some, I don't care for it, especially as I have labelled (since CS 0.8) bunny hoppers as absolute f**cktards. I do none of that and still manage to be in the top three on a fairly regular basis.

you're not wrong. I am enjoying COD:B06 but that's likely because I enjoyed COD: Cold War! This is like that, but newer. Graphics and sound are great, Story... Adequate, it's not authentic like MOH: Warfighter, but it works.... If you want to fuck with COD, then I recommend you go the ColdWar route. If you fucking on a HPC with 64 gigs and a 4090, then COD:BO6 is for you.
