Marathon Update

A Marathon Developer Update Video features Bungie's Joe Ziegler (not to be confused with 3D Realms' Joe Siegler) discussing the state of "a little game we like to call Marathon," the upcoming return of the first-person shooter series. Word is Bungie's been busy refining the game's concept and testing with "a lot of players" and that testing will expand to more players next year. Joe offers a sneak peak of a couple of images and the following outlook on where things stand:
There’s a variety of different things at different states inside of the game. Some things are a little bit more complete, like our environments are starting to come together in a really, really beautiful way. Some of the character models we’ve been iterating through so they’re coming together, but they’re not fully there yet. Our enemy models are still kind of a little bit in the early state, so we’re still iterating through and making those things land in a strong way. And a few of the items are still kind of coming online, so, it’s a little early to show you all of it as one piece. But as you’ve noticed, as many of you are familiar with, if you’re familiar with game development, all of these things are on track. They’re not all together, but when they all do come together, we really, really are looking forward to showing you what that looks like, especially in play.

Extraction shooters have become the, "everyone is going it yet, everyone is burned out on it" like battle royale games were years ago.

There always is an "era". Deathmatch shooters, MOBAs, Battle Royales, now extraction shooters. The reason (at least in my opinion) that Deathmatch/MOBA eras lasted longer was due to no FOMO.

I played tons of deathmatch and also wasted thousands of hours on DOTA and League and I never experienced FOMO. Then Battle Royales rolled over, battle passes were introduced, and bam! FOMO was here with every single live service game released.
