The basic facts of how retail works is just a boogie man for publisher like Sweeny to distract from what the metaverses real wet dream is for his type, it is a market with no middle men where everything thing is rented on short term licences, sold not a fixed prices, but via Gacha style gambling. Thing is if that would really work, retailers would have adopted it years ago. It can only work if retail is ended and consumers have no choice, but to buy funny Epic currency and spend it with Epic. So far Epic has failed monumentally to replace retail.

why would one need to buy funny Epic currency and spend it with Epic when they already accept real money for their products? also I am pretty sure the world has already moved to a world of short-term licenses. Where do they even sell physical copies of PC games or software packages anymore? Xbox and PS have both already introduced diskless consols, Sony has stated they are discontinuing optical disks for the consumer. Car manufactures no longer offer optical disks or tape players and are trying to get rid of AM and FM radio in favor of streaming. I think these things suck, but it is what it is. If we want a world with physical products, then it is up to us to bring them back.

Metaverse will probably only ever truly take off once people who lived through physical ownership all pass away.

A lot of younger people I know don't think for a second about digital ownership, it's the norm for them. Many also connect physical media with needless plastic waste. And really, who am I to say any different?

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride! - HT
