Yeah, Ys is older than Final Fantasy while at the same time having the same protagonist since 1987.
I played 1 and 2 and they are VERY antiquated, even with the remakes. 1 is extremely shallow, and 2 is a gigantic confusing maze.

That's Trails, another Falcom series. These aren't really connected at all, some minor callbacks at best but every story is its own thing and doesn't require prior knowledge.
Never played any games in this series and at this point I'm wondering whether it's too late to get into.

Oh okay. I was researching it based on how the Japanese language works and I thought it would be 'eesus'. I didn't even notice that they pronounced it right in the video. Thanks.

It's 'eese' with a hard S, like the name Reese. As mentioned in the blurb, they even say it at the end of the trailer. These tend to be pretty fun hack-and-slash JRPGs, if a bit cheesy. Worth picking up on a deep discount.

I loved 8 and 9, (couldn't get far into 7) and played the 10 demo. This is a definite purchase, but maybe more if I can get at least a token discount.
