The Village is a perfect example of his style of movie. It's good if you watch it once and then don't think about it. If you watch it again or spend a few minutes thinking about it after knowing the twist, the plot falls apart.

I love The Village and am very perplexed as to why folks dislike it so much.

Our species evolved over 2 million years standing around, walking, and squatting for 2/3rds of the day. Standing desks may not be a panacea but we know how bad sitting 2/3rds of the day is.

I would say that depends on your definition of "brilliant". IMHO -- he has made some great films and some no so great films. Personally, "Signs" stands out for me. A movie which is really about a man losing and finding his faith in the guise of an alien invasion movie. Even as someone who has been at a minimum agnostic since around age 12, I still found the story compelling.

I'd be very interested to know how many VHS versions they actually make and sell.

That's a ... unique take. Shyamalan shows a talent for storytelling in a lot of ways, but other than that if he has proven anything to audiences, it's mostly that he is a one-trick pony. He has had some absolute duds ("The Happening") and took on projects he had absolutely no business taking (Avatar), but his one main trick - an unexpected twist that you don't see coming - has ironically become predictable and boring. If you are watching one of his movies, you are likely trying to figure out what the twist will be, and it kills the movie. My personal favorite movies from him are "Unbreakable" and "Split", but he couldn't bring the trilogy to a satisfying conclusion. 'Glass' was decent but had way too much unfulfilled potential. He might be a genius, but mostly that doesn't come through in most of his movies. Too many of his stories have contrivances that are just too unbelievable, and 'the twist' is more of an annoyance than anything now.
M. Night Shyamalan has always been brilliant. It’s audiences who are finally catching up

Ah, the standing desk thing is of course clickbait.
Here's the important line from the actual study:Time spent standing was not associated with major CVD risk.
Time spent standing was not associated with CVD risk but was associated with higher orthostatic circulatory disease risk.
