Out of the Blue

Hats off to my hometown NY Mets, who managed to snag a playoff spot yesterday. The team has a huge payroll, so this shouldn't be a shock, but its record was 10-25 at the end of May. This projects to a 46 win season, but going 79-48 after that bad start led to them finishing as the hottest team in baseball. But I'm still not getting too hopeful about winning it all. The team hasn't won the World Series in 38 years, and ironically, that last championship was considered the end of a "drought" since the Miracle Mets won it all 17 years before that. But on the bright side, the Chicago White Sox become the worst team in modern MLB history has the news that with 121 losses this season, the ChiSox surpassed the 120-loss 1962 Mets for the most losses in a season in the modern era.

Ohtani has come closer than anything else to allowing me to forgive baseball for the 1994 strike. Interestingly, he was born in 1994. But at this point ignoring baseball is a habit, and frankly I'm pretty sure it isn't a "bad" habit.

As I've probably said before here Blue - I see your Mets, and raise you the Seattle Mariners. Actually, after the Mariners dumped so much salary in the off-season, I was pleasantly surprised that they at least stayed in the wild-card hunt until the last week or so. So, good luck Mets - and for me, there's always next year.

Hope is for fools, and I am the biggest fool that there is. The Yankees are my team but I saw the Mets at Shea Stadium 1000 times as a kid and I hope that they do well. I've seen plenty of Yankees winning the World Series. I'd rather see the Mets now.
