Assassin's Creed Shadows in February

A post on X from Ubisoft announces Assassin's Creed Shadows will now arrive on February 14th, and that the PC edition of the stealth/action sequel will launch simultaneously on Steam as well as the Epic Games Store. The extra time will be used for further polish and refinement, as the company seemingly admits that "softer than expected" sales of Star Wars Outlaws may be due to lack of this sort of extra effort. Previous preorders are being automatically cancelled, and those who now choose to preorder before launch will be entitled to the first DLC for free. Here's word from Marc-Alexis Cöté of Ubisoft Quebec:
Assassin's Creed Shadows is a dream project for us; finally bringing the series to Feudal Japan with many features developed with our community in mind, such as parkour or the renewed stealth, brought by new technology, all set in a beautiful and immersive world.
This is an ambitious addition to the franchise, a rich experience that can be lived through the eyes of two unique protagonists - but we realize we need more time to polish and refine the experience, pushing further some of our key features.

As such, we've made the decision to postpone the release date to February 14, 2025. The game will release on a broad range of platforms, including Steam at launch. Additionally, preorders will be refunded and all future preorders will be granted the first expansion for free.

We understand this decision will come as disappointing news, especially to those who've been waiting patiently for an Assassin's Creed game inspired by Feudal Japan, but we sincerely believe this is in the best interest of the game, and ultimately your experience as a player.

Rest assured we are looking forward to the moment you will embark on a memorable adventure with Naoe and Yasuke.

Until then, we thank you for your ongoing support.

Lol'z That's close... real close to how it works in my experience.

I've worked at the same software company for 15 years...
We got acquired by a big corporation about 9 years ago.
This is exactly how it goes

I just had one such situation myself this release... not major enough to go all the way up to execs or anything... but major enough to pull the feature at the last minute. I had been ringing the damn bell for like 6 months, finally got my manager on board, and then they managed to get their manager on board.
I had the receipts ready when the, "Why didn't this come up sooner?" question was asked lol

edit: It did take a while, but I appreciated that I was heard even if it took a while... that certainly doesn't happen everywhere.

I am not surprised that something like this exists. This game will surely make the list.

I have to disagree with this list, I can actually find W0KE content anywhere I want to, it's like super easy.

For instance, Jagged Aliance 2, Wildfire is marked as No W0K3e, despite the portrayal of "Boss Girls" in the military who are man haters. Graziella "Grace" Girelli even try's to indoctrinate players by saying "Pity...there's not too many strong women around." and "I'm NOT interested in meeting any nice young man. Ti amo...ciao!" God as if that wasn't enough, that this character is female and an illegal immigrant, they had to put CRT at the end of the sentence too?. You can also confirm that JA2:Wildfire was coded with DEI by looking at all the BUGS this game has, not to mention it does not run at a native 4k 240 FPS because the coders were more concerned with pushing their political agenda of equality then making quality Christian content for patriots.

I'm guessing this is a joke, right? In which case, LOL. If not, then you may want to check your calendar - this is 2024, not 1724... Women have the vote now, and some of them (including my wife) have PhDs and Director positions at national or multinational organizations.

Well the point is that I can find that W0kE content anywhere I choose. The whole woke argument is kind of dumb and unfounded IMO. It's something to be up set about if you have nothing better to do with your time, which I imagine is the case with many of the anti-woke crowd. While it's not exactly a joke, (i believe my statements regarding JA2 are factual) there is a lot of sarcasm there, making it a joke.

It'd be nice if we could have one thread about this game without someone getting triggered by the presence of a Black man in the game. Might as well rename the site White's Boo-hoo-hoos.

I'm not sure where people get this low performance or polish notion with Outlaws, it has neither issue. The issue that it has is that it is taking a non-Jedi and choosing to couple it with a character who starts off as unlikable (with reason) to be something that a very toxic fan base is currently seeing every attempt to put a female in the lead to be an affront to them.

I enjoyed the game, overused animation warts and all. The story and feel of the environments fit very well into the original trilogy era, and while Kay is not a very deep character, her character doesn't seem out of place.

Shadows' issue, like everything else, is a product of impotent animosity. Hell, Cutter's own post goes to show just how blatantly obvious it is that people just want to be outraged just to be outraged. Saying AC is even close to historical accuracy shows how little they really know the game. The only historical accuracy that the AC games can claim is the setting. Game events skirt real world events. People skirt real world counterparts in mostly name only. At best, the accuracy of the game is that it takes names and places and imparts an alternate reality on them while still being somewhat believable.

Shadows is doing the exact same thing. It's taking a real person during real events, imparting artistic license that doesn't completely shatter plausibility, and circles out all around with all the previous AC themes. Because people want to be mad they see a black man that has no definitive proof swinging one way or the other put into the role fitting for the period and suddenly it's an agenda.

It's just s freaking game people, if you don't like it, don't play it.. just stop trying to claim some agenda is taking place just so you can play up your fear of some great big boogeyman.

I just ignore the mental gymnastics that goes on with a segment of the supposed game community. I'm more concerned with wondering if Ubisoft management will ever begin to honestly examine why Ubisoft games are consistently showing disappointing performance nowadays. I get it that it might be hard to decipher the reasons when it seems that the audience is yelling so many different things, but a lot of it should be painfully obvious.

Given that we'll over half of your comments have some kind of political angle on what is ostensibly an entertainment focused news website, I would have thought that would be something you sought out and enjoyed.

Pretty selective memory there. Yeah, when I have someone else's politics foisted on me, I respond in kind. Same way if someone insults me or anything else for that matter. In this world you get back what you put out, or at least you should. Show me anywhere where I'm the instigator in these things. Maybe one time in a thousand? Don't engage or push a political agenda here and I'll do you that same courtesy. The only comments that ever get removed here are always from people who say anything other than what's acceptable to the left of the political divide around here. So much for the left's vaunted egalitarianism.

As for this game series, I've always been a big fan of AC because of its historical accuracy - outside of the Abstergo backstory crap - and it was politic free, barring the fictional politics of the Assassins and Templars. It's been creeping in slowly over the last several games but still minor enough to look past it. This is anything but minor. So yeah, there's a pretty huge fucking difference between then and now. What do you think would happen if they made a Black Panther game with a Japanese guy as the BP? The left would lose their collective shit. As always, it's the hypocrisy that pisses me off most.
