Plexamp on my Android to stream my music from my Plex server, works brilliantly. Advantage is I can run it in my car or outdoors and always have access to all my stored music, plus it D/Ls album covers automagically. WinAmp was always on my daily driver Windows PC though. Now I've switched to Linux Mint, I can't get it to run properly, so switched over to Qmmp, which isn't as nice but does what I need it to do. Really excited to see what the open source community can do about modernizing it.

Audacious is available on Linux and has a Winamp look-alike skin available in the default install. It's what I use daily.

I did try it and had terrible issues with the playlist functionality, so had to abandon it. Qmmp plays better with my particular setup and I was able to download the "Modern" skin so it is nearly identical visually to my WinAmp.

I use the VLC Android app. Believe it or not it's a pretty good music player as well as video and supports a ton of codecs, no ads, and it allows you to create playlists from local files in folders. It's not perfect, but it does the job. I too prefer to listen to my own local music files.

But I agree - I'd love to see a free open source Winamp for Android - just a basic music player, nothing fancy, no ads, and let me load my Alpine skin

Exactly. I'm still using 3.x and it does everything I need it to do.

Oh! An actual device. Looks interesting. I am a cave man when it comes to music. I still play CDs, although I do have and listen to Sirius XM on a regular basis. I considered digitizing my CDs several times but never got around to it. In part because I couldn't find a device I liked, the Apple Nano was tempting, but I refuse to step into their garden.

Big fan of Winamp like 20 years ago, I forget why it sorta died but at some point I switched over to Foobar2000 that worked great once you get the default UI setup how you like it. Barely play local media anymore so don't really use either now, lately it's been Spotify or Youtube.

Foobar2000 for the win on Android.
Still perfer Winamp on PC for best listening experience.

I just use the XI Music Player on my Pixel. For just playing music stored on your phone, it is pretty simple. The screenshots show a bunch of shit I have never touched but none of it is forced on you.
Couldn't find that on the app store, did you maybe typo, "Pi Music Player" by chance? I use that one myself. On the computer I've used VLC now for a while and Wimamp previous to that.

Love my old winamp 5.02 (feb4 2004).
I've been dragging and dropping my winamp folder from every MS OS version for 20 years without a hiccup. Plugins like milkdrop still work in desktop mode too. Player skins are modern enough to suit my taste. And I know the layout intimately.

I use mpc-hc for individual files. But for extended listening I always go with the Llama ass kicker.
