When you have a big hit and you have that internet kind of popularity, there's more passion and there's more responsibility for the quality that you do. And you look at yourself through a different lens. And sometimes that success lens can be a little dangerous because then you get so paranoid about making sure everything is great that you overstress about things," he told IGN. "But it's that success lens that really drives amazing games into the future. So I do believe that through the success lens that we have, we will just make far better products in the future."

So it’s a big Nothingburger of an article. They know they will be held to a higher standard then before. Got it.

It reminds me of those stupid Center/right leaning news stories about things like „it’s going to rain in the north part of New York State and here is why it’s bad news for Joe Biden and the democrats“ just an article for the sake of having an article.
Rimmer: “Step up to Red Alert.”
Kryten: “Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.”

The article itself says that "the game is 9th on Steam's bestseller list, so apparently the review bombing is having no affect." My question is therefore "why bother writing about it then?" Are you just trolling? Or are you hard up for anything real to write about?
Because, no one can say if GoWR could have reached 1st to 8th place without the PSN account requirement.

I think that while we were tolerant of it years ago, I think that gamers as a whole have reached a tipping point so to speak. We're just at the limit of what further silliness we are going to tolerate. If things like having to sign into Steam and then Ubisoft or Steam and then Origin because you bought a Ubisoft or EA game on Steam were introduced today, I think that they would receive an equal amount of pushback. Years ago people were all about "cutting the cord" and moving to streaming; nowadays many of us hate streaming even more than we used to hate cable. Basically, we have collectively as a society learned that if there's a way to do everything in the most greedy, anti-consumer way possible, companies are going to do it that way. I know that I am way more cynical and suspicious of anything a company does than I was just 10 years ago.

We (on the whole, generally speaking) sign into Steam, Blizzard, EA, Ubisoft, MS, and all sorts of shit to play single player games. Now Sony is a problem because they are a console manufacturer AND a software publisher? On principle, having to go online for any reason in a single player makes my brain itch a tad also but the ship sailed on that over a decade++ ago. If signing into something is a problem for you at this point then there are a lot of games you are skipping. I can respect that, I can think of a few games I have skipped for far less impactful reasons if I am being honest, but let's not pretend like Sony is asking for something akin to our first born here either. Playstation is their brand name for gaming and PSN has been used on PC for many Sony published games and for some time now. If PC gamers want these games to be cross patform available, then PC gamers are gonna sign into the same PSN stuff that the console owners do. I would be shocked if it was any other way. In fact, the fact that Sony doesn't already have a launcher (like EA, MS, Ubisoft, etc) on PC they want running in the background is the only part of all this that shocks me.

I am also not sure what purpose a negative review about something that happens in the first 2 minutes then not refunding the game actually serves. That said, I am supportive of people voicing their opinions and I have always thought that with the appropriate approach and perspective, user reviews are much more helpful overall then "professional" ones when I am making a decision specifically about purchasing a game. You just have to read through both negative and positive because not everyone agrees on what is actually negative, positive, or even what doesn't matter.

If it was optional, but gave you trophies on the PSN network, that'd be SORT OF a reason to do it, if you're into that. Maybe some in-game content! But no, Sony hasn't learned to offer anything AT ALL for their additional-account requirement.
With Ghost of Tsushima cross platform trophies was one of the things that you got when logging in so I assumed this had it too does it really not?

(it should certainly still be optional to login)

I like the GoW games very much, but I will wait until the Sony account stipulation is removed before I pick up Ragnarök. I have no need for a Sony account.

You're gonna be waiting a long, long time.

I agree that Sony's requirement to log into PSN (with literally zero benefits to the user for doing so) is stupid. They're absolutely doing it because it's easier for them to collate data for stockholder meetings, and maybe also so they can send you emails. It has NO value. If it was optional, but gave you trophies on the PSN network, that'd be SORT OF a reason to do it, if you're into that. Maybe some in-game content! But no, Sony hasn't learned to offer anything AT ALL for their additional-account requirement.

I have a PSN account, because I have a Playstation. If I didn't, I wouldn't have one, simple as that. Especially with as many breaches as Sony's had, where MULTIPLE TIMES their customer data was found in plaintext formats.

Still, people by EA and Ubi games on Steam all the time, and those don't just require a separate account, but a separate launcher as well. So maybe it's not a big deal? But maybe also Sony could make it of some value to the end use, not just themselves.

It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)
