Out of the Blue

Thanks to those of you who shared sympathies or their own grief stories in response to my post yesterday. Things got serious and it brought out some more sadness and a lot of kindness. It's nice to have people being there for each other.

But for a tone change, maybe it's good timing that today is Talk Like a Pirate Day. This is about as lighthearted as it gets. Yarr!

30-40mins for moderate to vigour physical activity can offset the negative impact of sitting for +10 hours a day.

Missed your posting yesterday, Blue. I hope your wife and friends helped you over the sad day and memories.

I don't think much of the day my father and the exact dates that unfortunately quite a few other relatives and friends have passed over the last few decades, but I always make sure to remember their birthdays and the parties we had. The final days are never good and most people would like us to remember them in their heydays, I think. At least my father and my friends would have prefered this.

I moved the mouse more intensely for about 40 mins and hope this will do the trick.

I'm now picturing a bunch of anti-vaxxers being keelhauled by the Dread Pirate Roberts or made to walk the plank by Blackbeard. Thanks a lot BoP.

I thought the Mickey trailer looked kinda interesting, but a January release date can only mean the studio thinks a steaming pile.

I enjoyed the novel and the director is talented as hell, so I have decent hope for it; but at the same time, I don't think it'd translate that well to live action? I don't know, I'm curious at least.

Mickey 17 is only very loosely based on the novel Mickey 7. For one thing, they turned it into a dark comedy. Also, note the number difference. I heard that they changed several other things also.

I read the first novel, but didn't read the sequel. The first was fine, but I didn't see a lot of room left to do much with the second one.

Get your shot people.

- COVID deaths are averaging 1200+ per week in the US while hospitalizations are over 5000.

- Human to human bird flu transmissions are suspected and being investigated. Infection can be serious and require hospitalization.

Or don't, and become a Darwin award candidate.

I just finished watching Borderlands and....it wasn't bad? I went in expecting Diary of the Dead levels of awfulness given all the mouth foaming, rage frothing comments I read about it.

It's passable enough and hit most of the notes of the first game. Casting was kinda meh but not community theatre level. It's not like any of the games have been masterworks of artistic accomplishment.

And I thought I was crazy. Um... Crazier. At the time that I saw it I surmised that based on the 3000 reviews of it being the worst movie of all time, my expectations of just how bad it was going to be weren't met at all, so maybe I was a victim of reverse hype? I felt the badness was massively overblown. Not that it wasn't terribly cast with weak script and dialogue; but I can think of 10 worse movies I have seen just this year alone.

Yes, I think the negative backlash was wildly overblown as well. It is not a great movie by any measure but I'd give it a solid C. I, too, have seen much worse movies this year as well. Much, much worse. Furiosa, The Crow, and Subservience spring immediately to mind.

I watched it the other day, and thought it was pretty good. It knows what it is and leans into that. I wasn't totally happy with the cast either, but Cate was a lot better than I was expecting and was fun to watch. I would watch BL again before I watched something like Prometheus or Life.

Scientists Calculated How Much Exercise We Need to 'Offset' a Day of Sitting - ScienceAlert.

I came up with the perfect fitness idea to match people's modern, mostly online lifestyles:

Hissy Fitness. People get their heart rates elevated and pace and stomp and flail their limbs while throwing hissy fits. I get their first session off to a roaring start by showing them their bills (which I've already charged) which have enough hidden fees to quadruple the price.

I absolutely refuse to talk like a pirate. I'm not that 1337 anymore. I can't even remember the last time I saw warez.

But on a darker note, does anyone else feel completely alone right now? Basically my entire family has succumbed to the fascist, oppressive, and un-American MAGA cult. Everyone except for my sister and one of my uncles who I never see. That uncle's own wife is more than happy to vote against her own best interests, in fact. It's so weird and depressing and inexplicable all at the same time. These are people I used to look up to and considered rational and intelligent. Now, I just feel disconnected from them all, and like I really have no family to speak of anymore. There is no reasoning or rationalizing with them. It's like they WANT to live under a dictatorship where they have no freedoms or upward mobility. These are, for the most part, people older than me who, through their votes, will be at least partially responsible for what my life is like in the future, and they don't even care.

I want off this planet.

The meta part of me would tell you we are all alone.

But the more practical part of me would say NOPE! I've got a whole family who has made it their personal mission to vote against every Republican, MAGAt legislation, and Cheetolini cult member as often as possible. All of us are hard nosed, stiff spined, rational, sane people (shut it, Prez. I can hear you laughing ) who fight to the last breath. World's turning to shit? Gather the clan, as it were, and start doing for ourselves. Ensure our own survival no matter how bad the weather.

Things are going to get bad and then worse. That's as clear as the dawn. But better days will come. Just need to be able to ride out the wave of shit until they arrive. Or, as the late, great Bob Ross said "Gotta have opposites, light and dark and dark and light, in painting. It’s like in life. Gotta have a little sadness once in awhile so you know when the good times come. I'm waiting on the good times now.”

I got shot in each arm. Once for COVID and the other for the flu. Took about four days for the pain to completely subside.

I am truly glad, although I'm sorry for your discomfort. We live in an age of scientific miracles. I'm dismayed at the the current rejection of science and expertise by so many people after we'd made such good progress in previous decades. I wish all to live long, happy, and natural lives, and vaccines certainly help with that for the vast majority of people. Thanks KX.
