John Carmack Interview

As usual, GameSpot didn't forget to pack their camera for QuakeCon, and so they have now posted a video interview with John Carmack, id Software's lead programmer. The conversation is available in four segments in several streaming formats, totalling nearly 24 minutes, and John talks about graphical effects, realism in games, the new Doom game and the features it will require in 3D accelerator cards, his current programming challenges, the future of computer graphics, and lots more.

J.C. has done more to advance PC graphics and gaming standards than any person to date in the last 8 years. One has to admire his talent and discipline over any idiosyncracies he may possess. #3, grow up.

Carmack is actually quite good at public speaking, as far as I can tell. Sure, his voice isn't quite what I'd call "deep"... but he can speak fairly well on the spot. You also won't catch him saying "ummm" or "err", although he does "mmm" a lot.
#3, do better. He wasn't patting himself on the back at all as far as I could tell? He mentioned that some of the stuff he did was incredibly hard whilst most of it was fairly easy... Which is probably true for him.

He does talk funny... just like Tim Sweeny at Epic, someone should do a study on if its the goofy stuttery nerd voice that makes you a genius or the other way around.

Who is this stuttering nerd?

"What i'm working on now is so tough, i'm doing the only programming on the planet. Ask me more questions where I pat myself on the back for the incredible job I am doing."

where is there a mention of more focus on gameplay? carmacks titles need plenty of that - especially in single player!

Kind of a shame that their streaming server sucks ass in chimp raping hell... Oh the fact the interviewer doesn't have a mic and carmack does makes for volume altering fun throughout.. Generally lame.

Interview is good though.
