I've been laid off once in my entire career and that was from a startup that imploded. Well, they weren't called "Startups" back then but that's what it was. I took 6 months off and went trekking and camping while I depressurized from the 80+ hour/7 day weeks and all the stress. I realize that I had the unique position of being able to do so. But I think taking some time to back off, unwind, and depressurize is beneficial to one's mental health before rushing out to find another job.
