I would say that certain games cannot be played very effectively without voice comms. My example would be Overwatch. Unless you are in a very casual game with everyone just doing their own thing. There's nothing wrong with that mind you but I played Overwatch for a different reason, as the game relies heavily on team coordination, as I assume most hero shooters and MOBA's do. Still, I would be turning off voice comms in most sessions within 20 minutes.
