Out of the Blue

Beware the Butterflies - Not a Blog is an archive of a deleted not a blog post by George R.R. Martin about House of the Dragon (thanks Reddit). This is critical of how one aspect of his book was changed in HBO's ongoing adaptation, before going on to discuss other changes to the source material the show may make in the future, warning that his rant contains book spoilers for those who haven't read it. Presumably a phone call from the overlords at Warner Bros. Discovery is the reason the post was deleted, but the internet, of course, never forgets. I hated the way they botched the ending of Game of Thrones so much that I could not bring myself to get sucked into this, even though in this case the source material is already complete. And George's complaints may just be the usual complaints everyone makes when source material is altered, but it sure sounds like he is confirming that I made the right call in skipping this. Fool me once, shame on you and all that.

Season 5 thru 8 of GoT convinced me never to get invested in a GoT show (including offshoots) again. After it has been wrapped up for a few years and didn't end in another insulting dumpster fire, then I will consider it.

Just read the blog...

That reminds me of how sometimes my brain takes the smallest thing and completely blows it out of proportions for no good reason and it is revealed that it was indeed a mountain out of a molehill.

He speaks very small minutiae that will likely have zero impact.

To conflate this with Dumb and Dumber's crappy fanfic once they ran out of material is disingenuous at best.

HoTD is a good serie, nothing earth shattering, far from first 4 seasons GoT that's for sure, but good nonetheless.

Same here. I find it surprisingly engrossing.

Watched the entire vid just now. LOVE cats, and now I even love them more. Amazing.

Those weird purry sounds my cat makes as well when he sees a bird outside. Sounds so incredibly cute, but translated to Human it says: I'm gonna rip you to shreds and eat everything except your liver, bird.
Still cute though.
I thought Hollywood had hit rock buttom. Then this happened.

This is how horror movies start, a malfunction rocket ship, some stranded astronauts, a strange noise,..... an empty capsule returns to earth... I bet the Russians murdered the astronauts, and sent an alien toxin down to earth in Starliner? some sort of biological mass injected with Elon musk's 5G nanobots, variant 2.

that was actually fascinating to watch, as it went through all the mechanical stages of landing. of course the sad part is that now boeing will claim vindication that it was safe to land all along.

As long as no one is on it I don't care. Boeing shouldn't be trusted to build a treehouse after the shit they did. Did and got away with.

No one is on it. I wouldn't wish that on our awesome astronauts.

Oh, Boeing got away with it because they are "important to national security". Just like they got away with all the people they killed and injured with their shitty airplanes.

So far so good for Starliner return. Hope it comes home ssafely as planned and that they get valuable mission data about the thrusters.

Dang, it's 5:07 and Starliner is over 60 meters away from the ISS.
5:11 the 11th burn (out of 12 breakout burns) completed successfully. And they are past the KOS keep out sphere

There are big differences betw GoT and HotD:
1) The source material is complete for HotD. No guessing the ending or working off GRRM notes scribbled on a napkin
2) Different showrunners

Converting a book to a tv show can't be 1:1 translation, although you can come pretty close (the first Harry Potter movie comes to mind). The Showrunners have to make decisions for a myriad of reasons, perhaps not the least of which is casting small children is a huge logistical challenge.

That said, the butterfly effect GRRM points out and its effect on future storylines does have the potential to change things. The story has been pretty good so far (haven't finished S2). I guess I'll keep watching until it gets bad. It's still among the best fantasy series ever made. What would I watch instead, Wheel of Time?

That The Crow pitch meeting is hilarious and makes the remake seem even more stupid (if that were possible) than it already is.

I love Weird Al but there wasn't nearly enough incoherent mumbling in that song to be a sendup of Bob Dylan.

I am very much looking for Starliner to become a glowing hot mess on re-entry.
How will you be able to tell it apart from the rest of the ISS after it slams into the space station and brings it along for the ride.
I mean all the parts in the glowing hot mess are going to all look the same.

It was an utterly boring slog. With the exception of a couple episodes, I really struggled to get through it. And it is totally a set-up for season 3, almost to the point of being insulting.
