Yes I got the BMI wrong. Sorry.

To the physical condition question: my physical readiness requirements were to be able to run 1.5 miles in 13 minutes, have a body mass index less than 15% or pass a "rope and choke" (circumference of the neck subtracted from the circumference of the waist and some multiple was applied). To get out of basic I think it was 50 situps and 50 pushups, but that was a long time ago. Once you are in you are intermittently subjected to a BMI check and have to pass a physical readiness test administered by your command (Run or swim). Failure of any tests puts you in a program that requires you to do extra physical training to get back within limits.

It was basically an open secret when I was in that a lot of people were getting in good with the corpsman or whomever was checking sailors in your command to have the results fudged in your favor so you didn't have to do the extra physical training. That applied mostly only to officers and chiefs though. Some commands were stricter than others. I failed once and had to do it.

Do you mean BMI of 25%? Because 15% is 100lbs for a 5'9 person.

Army is 18.9 - 27.5 for BMI. AR 600-9 page 23/24

Are the physical requirements for sailors generally low enough for them to be in poor physical shape?

What fucking photo are you looking at, the one of her head? Yeah there are some fatty's.

I could run 2 miles in a little less then 12 minutes. 5 miles in 30 minutes, and 12 miles in right under 90 minutes. I was in my early thirty's when i was hitting these times. I turned 32 in basic training. Shit was easy.

Your snide, snarky and frankly condescending attitude aside, what exactly is wrong with my question? I used to serve (army) and the requirements were pretty stringent. I have no idea what the requirements are in the U.S Navy so it's a serious question.

You didn't ask me but in my experience...oh fuck yes. Unless the extracurricular fuckery was flagrant or egregious and/or interfered with you performing your duties, it was quietly tolerated. At least shoreside. Now if you had a chief with a lot of hair on their ass, you weren't getting away with shit. Most of the E-7s and above that I ran in to were pretty chill but I generally did my job, wasn't a fuckup, and didn't make their lives any more difficult than it already was.

She got off VERY lightly compared to what I was used to. But the Navy doesn't have to disclose the full punishment, so she might be suffering more serious repercussions that they weren't required to disclose under the FIA.

was this kind of extra curricular fuckery common when you were in? seems like someone in a leadership position got a little carried away with the disciplinary leeway they can usually get away with. but lying to superiors multiple times is clearly crossing a lne.

Submarine life was not easy. Lots of guys would kind of snap underway. I would see a lot of violations because of that. Other than that it was about average going by typical Navy fuckery. I remember one or two of the "compromising security" type violations like this.

In the private sector you'd be fired with cause for shit like that. Hell, people get fired all the time for a hell of a lot less. If the worst she suffered is a demotion she'll do it again, and so will her co-conspirators. Something you cannot afford in the military especially.

Well I hope so. You could never put a person like that in a position of trust ever again. I think cleaning the latrines on a laundry ship for the rest of her time would be a good punishment.

The military is not letting you off that easy. Once you're in, you have to commit a very serious crime for them to immediately discharge you. You'll probably wish they had dishonorably discharged you by the time they are done with you.

I interviewed with Frontier earlier in the year. I had really high hopes, as it would have been a huge increase in responsibility for me, and after the call the hiring manager said I ticked 4 out of the 5 boxes he wanted with a 5 out of 5, but only a 3 out of 5 on the 5th. Sounded good. From there, they went totally cold on me, with the very friendly recruiter giving a terse response when I asked about an update.

I would like to believe this was what caused that, not anything I did.
