Star Trucker Released

Breaker! Breaker! Star Trucker is now available for Windows on Steam and for Xbox Series X|S, offering the chance to do some extremely long hauls. The Launch Trailer is here with a look at this in action, and there's a 10% launch discount if you want in. This post has reflections on the occasion from Monster and Monster, the game's two-person development team, and there's also a launch chat with Monster & Monster video with more. Here are some trucking details:
Hop into the driver's seat of your rocket-powered big rig as you haul cargo, scavenge for salvage and interact with an eclectic cast of star-hopping truckers in this Americana-infused journey on the ultimate open road - space!

Cruise the hyper highways, taking on a variety of jobs such as fuel hungry long hauls and hazardous drop-offs to earn cash and unlock new content.

And don't forget to monitor the CB radio for chatter from fellow truckers; it's a fantastic way to uncover side gigs and stay updated on galactic gossip.

Demo had good vibes but the absolute worst controls I've ever seen in ANY space game. It's like these guys have never play ANY other space game themselves. If they ever fix the controls...then...maybe.

I'm down. But I had better be worried that my old lady is sleeping with the mailman planet-side or it isn't realistic.

Kudus to the two devs, but I hate when people make space simulators with no understanding of space orbital mechanics.
Part of the gameplay is to avoid space debris.
But that debris would be orbiting at 18000 mph, so the only time you would notice it is when your truck has a new hole in it.

This is definitely a "wait until things are patched to buy" title.

Here are some of my complaints:

1. The keyboard controls cannot currently be rebound though a dev in the forum said "they are working on it". No ETA given.
2. Despite being set in space, there is no 6DoF. Lateral movement is not available nor is single axis vertical movement.
3. While FoV is adjustable, the hood on your star truck requires constant pitching to see things right in front of you since it takes up almost 1/4 of your forward looking view.
4. The trucks in ATS and ETS are exceptionally more maneuverable. The titular star truck handles like an overladen garbage scow in a tempest.
5. Lining up your truck to jump through a star gate is a little finicky and sometimes maddeningly annoying when you're hauling a load due to number 4. This matters because you'll be jumping to a lot of different systems and places to deliver loads.
6. Backing up in to delivery spots is...challenging. I've backed in bumper pulled, loaded 40 ft trailers with less difficulty. The containers you haul don't pivot at the connection joint as you would expect. They pivot far aft of it like the pivot point is set at the rear of the container. Also, the yaw rate is ridiculous given the poor handling. Correction becomes overcorrection in the blink of an eye.
7. Lining up to jump and some AI truck rear ends you? That's your fault. Enjoy your loss of income.

It's a noble effort from a two person team and you can definitely tell that a lot of love, passion, and drive went in to making the game. It just needs more refinement.
