Paradox (dev, not publisher) has done this and more for twenty five years.
The difference is paradox, back in they tiny studio days, released unfinished games and called them unfinished. Basically Early Access before it was an industry norm. Now they release basically finished games and fund them through option DLCs (everyone gets the core updates for free) for a decade or sometimes more (eu4 just got a dlc).
So you can buy a game and have a reasonable certainly that, unless it's imperator Rome, you'll get free support for around a decade.

Hello Games did the same thing by lying about the game up until release and then having Sony support them post-launch (I will *NEVER* be convinced that Sony wasn't actively in charge of the bullshit).

Take note Chris Roberts, this is how you make an "everything" game: refine your base game to be rock solid and feature complete, then add frivolous stuff a decade after launch.

It's not often I complain about NMS. When I played it last the planets all seemed too similar to me, and I'm aware they've been adding to that. But, having watched the trailer, I see them fishing... whilst standing... with a chair next to them. Why can't you sit and fish? I'm disproportionately irked by that idea. I wanna sit-fish.

It's quite a turnaround. A very solid game that only gets improved every couple months it seems.

Although I personally find the depth of the content lacking, there's a huge variety of it, and it's a wonderful game to just chill out and explore space and planets at the very least.

I have an 800 hour NMS save. I can't imagine I'll be fishing anytime soon...

I would totally do this and now I am going to have to reinstall the game. Damn, they got my number.

It must be fun to be a NMS fan and see continual new features added. It's like playing WoW and watching the weekly patch notes roll in and looking for interesting class changes: just part of the fun of the game.

Will I have to buy this game? Not for the fishing but for all about it. Rough start then non stop compliments and free DLC.

I'm just not sure I have enough time in a day...

Also S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 will be here soon and is above everything else in my play list. How long will it last in the above slot is unknown.

At some point NMS is going to have more features and systems than Star Citizen's dev map.
