Icewind Dale 2 Revealed

Desslock's RPG News reports that a sequel to Icewind Dale, the isometric role-playing game by Black Isle Studios, is in development, saying that they "can now confirm that Icewind Dale 2 is in the works (and it's not necessarily the only new D&D game that is being contemplated)." The game is to use the same Infinity Engine like previous installments in the series, but no other details are currently available, although a Christmas release is rumored.

Considering that parties leveled up to 30th level in Heart of Winter, IWD2 will probably start the player off at first level again. New adventure, new time, new party. Starting the game at level 30 would be rediculous considering 2nd edition rules did not have anything for beyond level 30 characters (they were demi-gods at that level - bioware fudged the rules drastically to go to 40th level).

Well, it was even more linear than than IWD. Go into dungeon, go from A to B, kill everything in sight. Just a few sub-quests in the new city Lonelywood but also tough new enemies. At the end of HoW you have to face a dragon
It's a bit short WITHOUT Trials of the Luremaster, but now that they've released it you should definitely give it a try.

I bet they are asking themselves why did we release that free add-on to Icewind Dale: Heart Of Winter?

Oh, did anyone buy Heart Of Winter? If so how was it?

I wouldn't go gaga yet. This apparently look likes Interplays last ditch effort to get some revenue going now that TORN is gone. The "Christmas release" date means this game may not be much mmore than a oversized expansion pack with not allot of Polish on it.

My first IWDale novel was actually The Spine of the World, I'm going to going to go through all of them fer' sure. Hopefully IceWindDale2 will have more "friendly" zone like Kuldahar, perhaps a bigger town/city i.e. Luskan.

The art was great, the music was amazing, hopefully it'll be just as good.I finally got around to reading the Novels (The Icewind Dale trilogy by Salvatore) and hopefully we'll get more NPS interactivity than in the previous one (there are bigger cities in the ten-towns than Easthaven).

NWN is going to be out a while after xmas, no?

Sides, there is still a bit of life in the Infinity Engine.

Yeah!! I feared that I'd never get another chance to use my skilled high-level IWD Party again, which has fought so many battles!! Sure the NWN Engine would have been great but as a die-hard Forgotten Realms Fan this isn't a problem for me. I hope Black Isle won't perish together with Interplay one day....

"DAMNIT!"

Maybe if had finnished reading the entire paragraph I would have noticed this in small print:

" The game is to use the same Infinity Engine like previous installments in the series..."

Will the Icewind Dale 2 followup take advantage of the NWN engine ?
