OK I admit that I've been ranting more than anything else in this thread. And while my point of a broader reach means a stronger influence remains, it's not a hill I wanna die on. Politically, the US has become such a fucking hellscape it's hard to think straight.

Seems to have been a smart strategy, but sure, let's say it was the media being an evil monopoly and not the party realizing mud-slinging at this date would be a disaster and exactly what conservatives hoped for.

And maybe some of those that would have challenged Harris saw where Trump's challengers are now. DOA. Their names heavily tarnished by the primary process, in a way that, again, would be a disaster in a truncated 3 week period post primaries.
Did you ever notice it's only those that get their news from right leaning media that are upset about Harris being picked?
Acting like it's some sort of conspiracy, all the while parroting the words that pour out of far right pundits' pie holes.

I frequently see the same people that say "we're a republic, not a democracy, the popular vote doesn't matter, the electoral college does!" angry that primaries are also indirect elections.

Both are (were?) the primary representatives of the left and right of the country, so you won't get a better example of the mainstream party views.

Could be a little bit thin skinned yeah.

Let's be fair here. I think he "changed his etire political belief system" because he's sick and tired of the hypocritical leftwing monstrocity that has its tentacles in everything that helps controlling the minds of the public. Sadly, he decided to battle that with the nuance of a sledgehammer.
Not like the right doesn't do the same thing though. The extremes of both sides are pretty off the rails with their media manipulation.

I think Elon has been more right wing his whole life as he was born in to wealth which almost always preaches right leaning ideologies. He was embraced by the left though for his projects that aligned with some of their ideals. I think he's just tired of pretending to be a, "cool lefty" and it was just natural for him to go from face to heel.

I've been rightwing on some things and leftwing and liberal on most things, but even I've been shocked and disgusted with the leftwing mainstream media the last couple of years -- especially the last couple of months. Your claim that the right does the same thing is true, but they don't have the same reach. I even dare to say their tactics haven't been as obviously dishonest as the left in the last couple of months, but I admit I hardly watch.

Have you seen how CNN covered the Trump Musk interview and how they lied about their conversation about nuclear energy? They made it sound like Trump and Musk talked about how nuclear bombs aren't such a big deal, while in fact they were talking about nuclear energy. It was so incredibly dishonest. And don't get me started on how the entire media machine and co oh so democratically shoved Kamala fucking Harris in our face to a point that challenging her was a fool's errant. Fuck that. The only miraculous thing that came out of that, is that I agreed with BLM for once.
I think the left and right medias work in different ways. Left is more subtle, the right is more direct. I can see how that would be seen as more shady though it's like arguing that one crime is worse than the other when both are bad.

As for watching Trump + Elon, this has to be at the bottom of my list of things I'd consider worth my time. It sounds like the biggest dick measuring contest of all time between two giant narcissists.

Not disagreeing, but I find it hard to measure what side is more dishonest. I just strongly feel it's the left, these days, based on what I've seen with my own eyes.

I also agree with the interview. I won't watch it, simply because I cba and not because I have anything against it. I didn't need to watch the whole interview however, to know the big fat lie CNN told.

Conservative television by the numbers

Through the second quarter of 2024, FNC delivered 89 of the top 100 telecasts in cable news, while CNN netted just three and MSNBC only had eight. In total day, FNC delivered 1,304,000 viewers, 154,000 with 25-54 demo and 96,000 with 18-49 demo, securing a 176% advantage over CNN viewers and 61% over MSNBC. FNC press release

And more

91 percent of political and talk radio broadcast each day is conservative.
https://www.americanprogress.org/article/talk-radio-by-the-numbers/

The reach of the right has never been stronger and dwarfs left leaning media.
Them’s the facts.

RedEye, while Fox News and conservative talk radio do dominate certain segments like cable news and radio, your argument overlooks the broader media ecosystem. Major left-leaning outlets like The New York Times, CNN online, and social media platforms have a vast reach across digital audiences, often surpassing traditional TV and radio in influence, especially among younger demographics. Furthermore, trust in conservative media is limited to a narrower audience, while liberal outlets command broader credibility across diverse groups. Link.

Also, the claim that the right "dwarfs" the left in media reach doesn't account for how media consumption is changing. Streaming, podcasts, and online news are where much of the younger, more liberal population gets their information, often bypassing traditional TV. So, while Fox News may win in cable TV numbers, it doesn't represent the entire picture.

And while political bias is strong on either side of "journalism" I've been confronted by much more lies on the left than on the right, from the sources I sometimes tap at least. Shit like the CNN example I mentioned earlier, is not at all uncommon these days. I'm talking blatant, obvious lies.

I find that most of the people that whine about "the mainstream media" don't know that Sinclair Broadcast is conservative, and that Sinclair and Fox News get infinitely more views than "the failing CNN" and MSNBC. Weirdly, most people that do that complaining also mock CNN for having low ratings, so I don't see how they can be omnipresent but also unwatched.

Actually, my favorite is when conservative voices post that video of Sinclair anchors all reading the same script, unaware that Sinclair is heavily conservative.
