Out of the Blue

Here's a shout-out to all the sweaty gamers down in Texas for QuakeCon. Yesterday's surprise release of that DOOM + DOOM II update seems like fantastic news, and I'm really looking to checking it out. QuakeCon sort of marks the beginning of the end of the summer game show season, which more-or-less culminates in gamescom, and the biggest show of all gets underway on August 21st.

By far one of the worst dei Boeing issues dei, occurred in 1992 when two engines dei fell off a dei 747.

To the person with the Nvidia 970, old graphic cards still work. I have a 960 which I do 2k all the time with no problems. Yeah I cannot play much at max settings anymore, but graphically it still looks great.

As to Boeing they went with DEI and are paying greatly for the stupid move. There might be some places where DEI works, but it is certainly not in an engineering company or the military.

I've had this feeling of "Jamais vu" happen 2 or 3 times on a dirt road with a forest on both sides.

It's a very familiar road, I used to take it numerous times every day. Then one day in my 30's I drive in it and I get this weird feeling of complete disorientation, as if for a moment I'm completely lost and have no idea what this place is.

Then a few moments later it vanishes and all is back to normal.

One of the oddest feelings I ever had regarding memory.

Yeah, I remember laughing out loud when Johnny mutes the mic, tells Les the correct pronunciation, and Les keeps using the wrong one. Worst thing about WKRP, they didn't license the music in a way which would have allowed them to do DVDs of the series. I probably would have bought those... oh well.

Huh, was licensing music for shows even a thing back then? You'd think that would fall under Fair Use as the music wasn't the focus of the show and only served in the background to illustrate it was a radio station.
There are separate licenses for home video for whatever reason. It may have been because TV shows getting home video releases was rare at the time of the deals. Basically there are a ton of shows that didn't get home releases because the music rights alone would have been too high or they went through and dubbed/removed all of the music.

The heck has "DEI" anything at all to do with freely choosing to hire unqualified workers instead of paying more for qualified workers?

It's just the usual cutting of corners / expenses as much as possible of capitalist practice, damned be the consequences.

It wasn't DEI. It was shifting from an engineering company to an accounting company. It happened in the merger 20 years ago, with McDonnell Douglas, pushed out the engineering-based Boeing leadership to MD's accounting leadership. They then brought in a succession of GE leaders, and since Jack Welch retired, we've seen that GE's style of leadership just destroys company value.

Can you share a whistleblower saying it was DEI? When I search, I see an anti-DEI spokesperson saying he had an anonymous conversation about DEI, but that's really far removed from the actual, tangible things we can see, and comes across like one guy with an agenda talking to one guy that may or may not have actually known something or may have just been the first guy seeking out someone with a similar agenda.

I mean, we have a ton of video evidence of employees talking about how they've been pushed to get rid of all the checks and balances, and how they've been pushed to approve lesser quality, cheaper work. We've also seen all the lobbying Boeing did to get the FAA out of their factories, allowing themselves to make employees the ones responsible for approving work, and we've seen that some of the whistleblowers were those very employees. That wasn't done for DEI purposes, it was done to save a buck.

As someone in a publicly traded company with DEI goals, I can very openly say we've never once hired someone unqualified for DEI purposes. We've made sure people that may not have been interviewed got interviewed, but we've never made a decision based upon anything other than "merit," and I use merit in quotes because there is no single, easily defined merit. Even if you're building a baseball team, where skill is much easier to value, and you need a second baseman, who has more merit, the one that is a better batter or the one that is better defensively? What if there's a guy that is great at both, but known for getting into fights with his teammates in the lockerroom and hitting on their wives? Different people will disagree, and in actual corporate settings with white collar jobs, it's not even remotely as clear since you don't have hours of video and easily understood stats to look at.
