I would agree if those companies hired those workers to 40 hour a week gigs for years at a time. But they don't. Acting by its very nature is project focused and transient. Residuals give actors the chance to get some money while they look for their next project. Without residuals, the profession becomes untenable for the vast majority of people.
And those residuals come on only as long as the show is popular and being consumed. The vast majority of shows are not
