Over the weekend, I finally saw a monarch butterfly in the yard. And just now, I saw two laying eggs.
I didn't expect any this year, as so much of the milkweed is brand new, but they've taken a liking to one of the butterfly milkweeds from last year (the others haven't done as well yet), and then to landing on the swamp milkweed, where I found the eggs.

I bought some more blue lobellium, since most of my cardinal flower from the spring hasn't made it, but the deer got to it. We hadn't had one in the yard for over a week, but immediately upon planting some new stuff, a deer came in and ate the buds. Sorry, hummingbirds.

But I got a dwarf trumpet vine, too. Hummingbirds will go nuts for that next year. Being a dwarf, well semi-dwarf, it supposedly won't be as aggressive/invasive, but just to be sure, I planted it in a 5 gallon bucket with the bottom cut out. Runners are usually 9 inches deep or less, so this will contain virtually all of them. Will still need monitoring to keep in check, but hopefully it survives through the winter and explodes with blooms next year.

I always liked that movie. Not quite loved but it had some great scenes in it.

Man, does that sort of shit that Boeing gets ever make me see red. There are guys in prison for life for robbing a convenience store. These motherfuckers are mass-murderers solely out of greed and they just waltz away with a tiny fine and not a single person goes to prison where they belong.
