Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - A Dance of Masks Released

A Dance of Masks is now available for Windows and macOS on the Epic Games Store, GOG.com,* and Steam, as well as for consoles. This is the sixth and final DLC pack for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - Enhanced Edition, the fantasy RPG from Owlcat Games and META Publishing (which is required). This is included in Season 2, so it may already be in your library. The launch trailer takes a look. Word is this takes players back to where it all began:
One last love letter to the Knight Commander and their loyal companions. Gather all your companions and travel back to where it all started – the city of Kenabres, destroyed and now risen from the ashes. Visit a festival, celebrate your victories, socialize with friends and loved ones, watch the fireworks… And thwart the plans of villains trying to spoil the fun!

A new adventure will take you back to Kenabres and beyond: to a new enemy's stronghold.

Unless I'm busy playing BG3, which I have also held off on until it is "complete", which again should happen with patch #7 according to Larian, which again will also require the obligatory dozen or so of hotfixes so we'll have to see who's done getting their shit together sooner. Larian or Owlcat. Good times for this RPG fan... there won't be a lack of options...

Don't hold off playing BG3 - it's pretty much perfect as-is. I completed it recently at 201.5 hours of gameplay and it was worth every moment.

Nah. At this point, I might as well wait for the "final" patch #7. It will be a BIG ONE according to Larian and they are also adding new content in the form of endings (especially for the evil paths). I'm also hoping for more QoL. The interface/inventory/party management was/is abysmal compared to other party-based RPGs of this kind so I really hope they are going to address some of the annoyances and clunkiness.
Besides, it's not really a "summer game" (for me). I'd rather play something low(er) maintenance during the hot season while BG3/WotR are typical fall/winter games (for me).

I'm actually positively surprised that they are wrapping up BG3 "already". I thought I was going to "have to" wait through two more years of endless patching for a Definitive Edition but this is much better. I hope they will do it similarly with their future games as well.
I know that a lot of people don't mind the post-release support but my OCD keeps me from playing an inferior version of a game. I always want to play the fully patched game (at the very least feature- and content-complete).

I appreciate that. In one way I have no idea who you are, and in another you are one of my close friends. I've been having a rough week so apologies if I sound overly negative. I will always still try to maintain a dark humor about me. Maybe too dark sometimes but I try.

They're using it for concept artwork, not in-game artwork. I'm a bit on the fence for that. It's concept work to build ideas, but at the same time, that work was done by actual artists in the past and thus they are still replacing artists with AI even if it's not for finalized in-game content. Maybe this means their artists can spend more time working on the in-game content and games can get done faster or have more content as a result, but only time will tell on that. It may also end up homogenizing their artistic vision on things leaving their games to be more samey than before.

There are artists who specialise in concept art. They're called Concept Artists. They create something out of nothing - blue sky stuff - hundreds or even thousands of sketches, ideas, breakdowns, reference sheets. Many of them have expert knowledge of character & creature design/anatomy, landscape, architecture, etc, and apply decades of experience to questions like "How would the muscles of a dragon's wings attach to their bones?" A friend of mine is a Creature Concept Artist. Most of her work never gets seen, because it goes into a visual bible for other artists who specialise in illustration and rendering.

So OwlCat is definitely using AI to do what a real artist would be paid to do *and* would do better, because machine learning has no understanding of anatomy, geology, architecture etc.

And the worst part is that these AI models were "trained" using the work of concept artists without their permission. Countless thousands (millions?) of copyrighted works of art have been effectively laundered so companies like OwlCat can pay artists less.

Repent, for the end is near!

No, it is just a huge step forward in productivity with repercussions for "no work, no food" societies. It could actually end up making life better for many people - unless it will be used to further concentrate capital in the hands of very few. Which is likely to happen... at least in the beginning. We will personally experience what is going to happen within the next few decades.

I'm not buying anything else from Owlcat since they started replacing concept artists with generative AI. Fuck that.

Just like horse-drawn carriage drivers hated automobiles and were sure that they could never replace them...

Guys, I know it is horrible but we cannot stop this. AI will take away MANY creative and administration jobs. This will result in the question "What do we do with all those unemployed people? Who pays for their food, water, energy?" and so on. But this genie is out of the bottle and it will only get bigger and better (yes, it will improve). AI is here to end societies built on jobs/employment.

Whaaaaaaat... are you serious? Citation needed, this is terrible if true. I was already on the fence with these guys being Russian, this is going to be the nail in the coffin for this company, for me.

*EDIT* Apparently it's true , sort of. Still a bad look, and slippery slopes, etc.

"AI will be used exclusively for additional work with concepts and to speed up some internal processes. For example, for creative search, inspiration, or the formation of a vision before the start of the conceptualization itself. In the final version of the game, there will be no art generated by neural networks."

Zero fuxx given if they use generative AI or trained chipmunks for their concept art .

I'm glad that Season Pass #2 has been fully delivered now. There will be the obligatory dozen (or two) of patches and hotfixes and then 'Wrath of the Righteous' should hopefully finally be "complete". I'm tentatively scheduling a purchase of SP2 for this fall (already own SP1) and then will hopefully find the time to fully dive into this massive endeavor during the cold & dark season.

Enjoy it while you can as AI only continues to improve and replace people in EVERYTHING!!!
