New Lords of the Fallen Next Year

A filing on Bankier.pl reveals that CI Games signed a binding agreement with Epic Games on June 14th for a new installment in the Lords of the Fallen series. This says it will arrive in 2026 and includes a confirmation that it will be an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC, while distribution rights on consoles remain with the developer. The first two games were both named Lords of the Fallen, so while the report lists the new game as codename "Project 3," we're hopeful for a third game in a row with the exact same title. Here's word:
The Management Board of Cl Games SE with its registered office in Warsaw (the "Company") hereby announces that on 14 June 2024 the Company signed a binding term sheet with Epic Games Inc.

("Epic") pursuant to which the Company grants Epic the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the sequel of the game "Lords of the Fallen" (working title: Project 3) (the "Game") on the PC platform for the entire product life cycle (the "Binding Term Sheet").

The rights to the Game and the Series, including all intellectual property rights (IP), as well as the rights to publish and distribute the Game worldwide on all other platforms, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms for which the Game is currently in development, will remain with the Company. In other respects, the Binding Term Sheet provides for standard market terms.

The game is scheduled for release in 2026.

Good god. Nobody said he was the authority in all things gaming. As I explicitly stated, he offered "one of the best thoughts on Epic vs. Steam" as a developer.

Not sure what he’s talking about, epic allows for refunds for 14 days, two hours testing. They also don’t have reviews in that format although they will pop up and ask questions about the game from people to play it. This appears to be a really old interview

One of the best thoughts on Epic vs. Steam from a developer perspective comes from Jason Thor Hall, who previously worked at Blizzard Entertainment and is now an indie game developer.

you are wrong. games used to be available in stores until steam came along and brought electronic delivery to the masses. You might say it is not the same thing but the net result is the same. you can no longer buy many PC games in stores because they are now exclusive to steam (and also locked to steam, you used to be able to resell PC games). Where are the complaints about that?
PC gaming going digital has nothing to do with anti-consumer third-party exclusives. That's an apples and oranges thing. They're not even the same.

Besides PC gaming has been digital for decades. Third-party exclusivity as in Valve goes out and pays publishers money to sell their game exclusive on Steam wasn't (and has never been a thing). It only became a thing with Epic when they launched their store. And only because EGS cannot compete with Steam on merit. So they go anti-consumer exclusives. Tim's company is cancer for every PC gamer. Even those who like EGS. Recognizing what they're doing is fundamentally bad for PC gamers.

Oh the horror
Here's the second sentence from that article. "The Irvine, California-headquartered developer has worked quietly on a re-release of their third-person sci-fi espionage ARPG (originally launched back in 2010) alongside Sega and GOG." It says GOG was involved in the development of the re-release. That makes them a first-party, and they're selling the game exclusively on their platform as a first-party developer. I have zero issues with that. I am okay with Epic selling Fortnite on EGS, Ubisoft selling their games on their UbiConnect platform, Valve's games exclusive on Steam, etc. When they put money into the game's development, I respect their decision to sell exclusive on their platform.

you must hate consoles then. you call it bribery. I consider it a business deal that allows the company to get the funding they need in order to complete the game. I fail to see how that is a bad thing. Would people be happier if the studio had to shut down? Because that is what is happening right now, you can see another one died in the news today.

Yep. Besides, there are quite a lot of GOG exclusive games. It goes without saying that there are deals in place or why else would the publishers in question refrain from a Steam release (to an audience of over 130 million AU per month)?

In most of those cases, GOG put in the work (legalities, compatibility etc.) and they obviously signed an exclusivity deal with the publishers to reward themselves for their efforts.
Something, that I personally believe, GOG should do way more often. Then maybe they would stop being such a dwarf company with a measly $57 million annual revenue... (in 2023 and that number is only so "high" because of the Cyberpunk expansion... without the Cyberpunk expansion they would be at their usual ~$40-ish million).

you can see the development process documented here.

The game is not on steam. I doubt it will ever get on steam because GOG did the work to make it work in their environment and I can't imagine they will make it work with steam binaries so steam can sell it.

Yes, at least GOG have. The new Alpha Protocol is exclusive on GOG and there is certainly a deal in place that keeps it exclusive (for now... no one knows if it is timed exclusivity or permanent).
