Out of the Blue

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! It's another occasion here in the BlueTower as today is also MrsBlue's birthday. We went out to dinner last night with my stepfather and had a lovely time. And it served as a double-celebration, killing two birds with one stone. This gives us the freedom to avoid today's rush on restaurants of folks taking their dads out. But with the weather is quite pleasant today, we may take a walk by the Hudson River, which will hopefully not be as overrun as other spots.

Celebratory Round-up
Thanks Ant, Neutronbeam, and Max.

Especially bad if they have to pee.

It can also kill you in pretty short order - like 3 hours or a lot less if you have hypertension issues. Lots of people have died that way. I remember I first heard about that a few decades back when some thief was breaking into a garage, got tangled upside down in his ropes and died. That used to be a particularly favored method of torture of the samurai in Japan. They just nick your jugulars enough to alleviate the blood pressure buildup that kills you but not enough you'd bleed out.

suspension trauma is also a thing. We had training on suspension trauma when we were part of rescue, especially climbers who had been roped in for hours, it wasnt advisable to just cut them out immediately, you needed a doctor on scene with adrenaline and an IV.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

They may not be amused, but one could argue they're definitely parked.

Speaking of Microsoft and fonts. I prefer Cascadia Code because of the monospace, ligatures and sexy arrows. The Cascadia Mono doesn't have ligatures if you don't dig em like I do.

It's supposed to be built into Windows, but I did not find it on my Win10 workstation, although I did find it on my Win11 surface pro.

You can also download it her from a safe font library:

Thank you. Inconsolata was nowhere to be found on my system, Windows 11 Pro 23H2 dell laptop.
Installed it and set as default in Notepad++ under Settings >> Style Configurator...
Also simplified the general look of Notepad++ by hiding the Toolbar and Menu bar. Settings >> Preferences... >> General

I use the SourceCodePro TrueType font with it that has crossed zeros so I don't confuse zeros and O's, and it's also impossible to confuse lowercase L with uppercase I.
Is this it? Zeroes have a dot in the middle, I like the idea of it being crossed more better.
https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Source+Code+Pro
And anything they could do to a lowercase L would be an improvement over I.

Did you even notice that was an uppercase i. Here’s a lowercase L, I.

Nope, did it again. This is a lowercase L, l.

Yeah, sorry, I meant dot in the zero. I too would love to find one like that with a slash through the zero.

I used to make my own fonts an eternity ago. Maybe I should just make one if I can remember how.
-----
Hmm. Okay. Seems there is a way to enable a slashed zero in SourceCodePro, by running the source through a font editor and flipping a toggle, according to a github thread: https://github.com/adobe-fonts/source-code-pro/issues/214

I need to research this more. Surely someone has just posted the .ttf file for it somewhere?

Notepad++ is a great piece of software. But Notepad is pretty damn useful, because it is so simple. I use it more than Notepad++, most often I use it to strip off various encodings when I want to copy something off a web page.

I'm getting a bit weary of the contention that everything is being "review bombed" because it is "woke". It is a disingenuous built-in argument that precludes any possibility that a show is objectively terrible with the added effect of providing unassailable protection for said media by labeling anyone giving a bad review as racist or sexist.

I don't give a crap about rotten tomatoes scores anyway as they have proven to be, as with a disheartening number of other review establishments, agendized to project messages rather than honest opinions. Given the go-to responses from the extremes on both sides, however, it's not hard to see why they became so. It's yet another front on the moronic culture war - division and strife pay well. The news media certainly found that to be true quite a while ago. People who just want to know if a show or movie is entertaining or not are once again ignored and out of luck.
