Second Developer For Wolfenstein?

Second Developer For Wolfenstein? is a story on HomeLan Fed reporting that a preview of Return to Castle Wolfenstein in the September 2001 issue of Computer Gaming World reveals that Gray Matter is not developing a multiplayer mode for their upcoming first-person shooter, but that an as yet unsigned developer will take on this task. They contacted id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead about this who briefly commented that more information will be released at next week's QuakeCon.

Naw. Blizzards got their own stuff. My guess for Blizzard is a Diablo online game(they want some of Verents loot).

Personally, I think the fact that it is GM working on RTCW makes it all the more interesting. Kingpin was a well polished game, that only lacked lengevity because it didn't attract a strong enough multiplayer community. Whether these new RTCW multiplayer developers come up with a product that will replace Q3 as the premier Deathmatch game is what will count imo. I doubt they will, simply because the DM community has a history of being loyal to the most recent id title no matter what else is around.

Old News.

There has beee a seperate developer for the multiplayer component for the last few months. Infact, RTCW multiplayer has already been deep into development. The Game will ship late 2001, and multiplayer WILL be included out of the box. You will be surprised to see who the developer is:)

Thats all Im saying........

an obvious choice would be Threewave, they have a good team and make killer multiplayer.

Multiplayer was never intended to be supported out of the box. They have said all along, it's all about the single player experience.

If they are bringing in separate developers for multiplayer, i would hope it is for something more involved than Wolf arena. About the only thing i could forsee needing those kind of resources (considering the q3 engine has some decent net code already that shouldn't be that hard to incorporate) would be coop. And i think i would pay 20 bucks on top of the game for solid online coop.

Oh man, if they haven't even started developing multiplayer for it yet then that means 1 of 2 things.
1) There's no way the game will ship this fall/winter as I had heard was the plan.
2) It will ship but multiplayer will either be an a)add on download like Quake 2 originally was, which was a bad thing IMO, or b) will be a seperate product, a la an expansion pack, whick I don't think will fly.
I'm betting on (1)

Hasn't it been reported this games gone over the $10 million mark in costs already? This games gonna have to sell a million copies just to break even. I still don't know why id picked Grey Matter. These are the guys that did Kingpin and Redneck Rampage.

Of course, the obvious choice would be iD themselves... But that's almost too obvious.

It's likely that more effort will be put into multiplayer with another set of workers and schedules. I wonder who will be up to the task?
