Get Redout 2 for Free; EGS Freebies Ending?

Redout 2 is now available for free on the Epic Games Store, offering the chance to own this racing sequel for free. Today's other giveaway of an Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms content pack is also now available. You have a week to collect, and they're yours for keeps. But it's not clear if we should expect this promotion to continue next Thursday. Epic promised its first freebie when it launched the store in 2018, and has given away a ton of games on a regular basis since then. There's no announcement that this plan is changing, but the usual listing showing next week's giveaways is missing from today's news. So it's possible this gravy train is ending, as in the past even secret releases were promised as "mystery games." Barring further clarifications, we'll know more in a week. In the meantime, here's word on today's freebies:
Redout 2 is a tribute to classic arcade racing games and the sequel to the critically acclaimed Redout, where racing through the dystopian wastelands of a semi-abandoned Earth is one of the galaxy’s most popular sports. Reach impossible speeds in exhilarating futuristic races across an extensive single-player campaign and competitive multiplayer. Deep control systems, robust hovership customization and a killer soundtrack make Redout 2 the premier anti-gravity racer.

All players who log into Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms through the Epic Games Store between Thursday, 6/13/2024, at 11 AM Eastern and Thursday, 6/20/2024, at 11 AM Eastern will receive Duke Ravengard's Champions of Renown Pack. This pack is worth over $100 USD and can be yours for FREE, just by logging in! Get ready to level up your game with this exciting offer!

Such hate against the leading platform in these types of threads. Oh well, doesn't seem to mean much.

I prefer a single platform. That could change, but I've seen no reason for it to in the 21st century.

I have 3 basic reasons that I use only Steam for new games despite hating them as much as Epic. My library is inhumanly massive - having all of that spread out among multiple platforms would make an already tough to manage situation virtually impossible. And yes, I tried GOG Galaxy and similar centralized library managers. If I could even get them to work, (I could not get Galaxy to link up so it was virtually useless to me) I didn't particularly care for the one or two that I tried. Second, Steam far and away has better platform features. It's not even close. Everyone who says that choosing which platform to use boils down to simply seeing a different installer very likely doesn't care about or make use of those features, and I'm fine with that - to each his own. Just try to remember that not everyone is exactly like you. Lastly, and it's a very simple reason, is that Steam was first. Had EPIC been first I would probably be using them instead, though it is possible that Steam could have convinced me to make the switch with better features.

Tim Sweeney is an unadulterated lying, exploitative con man. I suspect that Gabe Newell is too, though given that Valve at least knows how to shut the fuck up I can't be sure. He either is a quiet megalomaniac like the rest of CEOs or he is a clueless moron for not realizing the disgusting shit his company gets to.

All eggs in one basket? Not recommended 🤪

Personally speaking my priorities for making a purchase come down to price > publisher/dev > DRM free. Generally speaking best price wins, but after price it's EGS for indie games (self published or indie publisher only) or GoG for DRM free otherwise it's whatever happens to be most convenient (games that require third party logins/platforms I try to get on the native platform just for simplicity).

Same here - I look at and use Steam (preferred since I use a Deck), Epic, GOG and Nintendo (for the Switch). All are run by publishers whose games I enjoy and whom I have at least a little faith in (tends to vary ). A game at good value is a game at good value so long as there are no intrusive DRM strings attached.

I've purchased plenty of games on EGS (while taking advantage of their coupons), and some of the best games I've played in years, I've gotten for free. I actually like having a few different storefronts/game launchers because sometimes I don't want my Steam friends knowing what I've purchased or currently playing. 🤪

Never heard of Freshly Frosted, specifically, but I do like a good factory puzzle game.

Looks like they were just a bit late to the punch this week.

Add me as a freebie whore who hasn't paid a cent but has 100's of games now. I honestly don't know how I sleep at night Uneasy
Has the EGS Offline update happened yet? It may encourage me to give their launcher another go:
We are making significant improvements to Offline Mode, including the ability to deliberately switch to an offline state, a smoother launcher experience with clear error information, and improved authentication flows for users with limited connectivity.
atm still getting by on Heroic Launcher. Doesn't run everything but it is small, neat and portable.

I'm also a little surprised the freebies have continued, but it's entirely possible they've been driving enough growth to make it work out.

I've never understood why people put Steam on a pedestal as though Valve hasn't done a ton of shady shit along the way. They forced Steam on everyone buying Half-Life 2 and their earlier games multiplayer while it barely functioned. EA had a better refund policy on Origin which basically forced Valve's hand before EU regulation came around. Those are just the first two things that popped into my head. It turns out Valve is just a shitty giant corporation like every other one is.

I guess you can't joke if you are the joke. Anyways, I have Epic starting alongside Steam when I log in because I have purchased plenty of games there. I'm not some weird bitch who thinks that buying from a specific website means anything. I go where the sales are because my money is important. I actually work for it.

Not so fast! Next week's entry is now Freshly Frosted (plus Rumble Club) - I haven't seen that one before.

Snagged Redout, left CotFR - I just finished BG3 and am now splitting my time between Xenoblade 3, Shin Megami Tensei V, Dragon Quest XI (all on Switch) and Tales of Arise (on Steam Deck). June is clearly JRPG Month!

I buy from EGS about as frequently as I do Steam or GOG. If a game I want to play is only on EGS, I just buy it from there. I don't care what color the storefront is since I don't see it anyway. All corporations suck. How they suck differently from one another is immaterial to me.
