Star Wars Outlaws Gameplay Reveal

Following the brief teaser for Star Wars Outlaws the other day, Ubisoft returns with an Official Gameplay Showcase for the upcoming third-person action/adventure that will immerse players in the seamier side of the Star Wars universe, naturally starting off in a notorious hive of scum and villainy. The clip includes over 10 minutes of gameplay, including space combat, planetary reentry, and an authentically sandy Tatooine, twin suns and all. Here's word on the game:
Star Wars Outlaws, the first-ever open-world Star Wars™ game, is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC in 2024. With development led by Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars Outlaws invites you to play as cunning scoundrel Kay Vess (Humberly González), who – along with her loyal companion Nix (Dee Bradley Baker) – must pull off one of the greatest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen.

Set between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back™ and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi™, Star Wars Outlaws takes place in a time when the Galactic Empire relentlessly pursues the final defeat of the Rebel Alliance, and the criminal underworld is thriving. Kay will take on high-risk, high-reward missions from the galaxy’s crime syndicates as she seeks the means to start a new life.

I don't know the answer to that, but does it really matter? Lots of people replay single-player games from time to time... I did not mean I'd be playing it non-stop for years, I've never done that with any game.

Lol, no. So I get that games are subjective and everyone has their preferences, there's nothing wrong with that. But this is just an objectively false statement. This game is very different from Jedi Survivor. You may not like it, and that's fine, but at least be honest about it.

You're correct. I do not own a 14900K but what I do have are 253 Optiplex 3680s with 14900s in them. We had to work with Dell to get them to send us an EFI image that allowed us to make similar changes that you did to increase stability and dramatically lower their blast furnace levels of heat output.

I know it's the Ubisoft template... but it looks really good.
Like I'd play that template again for high production Star Wars... would rather this than the Souls-like template of Fallen Order and Survivor.

Just looking at the crop of games coming out this year, I'm so glad I upgraded my machine. I9-14900K, 4090, 32GB DDR5 (6400MT/s), M.2 SSD (7,450 MB/s), LG 27" 4K UHD IPS... I'm ready!

CPU PL1 and PL2 set to 175W, voltage set to -1.2 offset, and performance lowered to keep the CPU from overheating.
You're leaving a lot of performance on the table by setting the PL1 & PL2 that low. Luckily most games at 4K are going to be heavily GPU-bound so it won't matter much I guess.
Buys corvette, never shifts out of 3rd gear and leaves the emergency break on.
And that’s the state of Intel’s “top o the line“ cpu’s.
None of you actually own a 14900K nor did you go through the issues that appeared about a month ago with 13th/14th gen CPUs and motherboards. Undervolting is a viable option for keeping the CPU healthy without impacting performance. There are plenty of information online that demonstrates this. For example, this reddit article. I decided to go with a high-end medium between 125 and 200. I've seen no issues with setting the PL1/2 to 175.

Yeah, might as well have gotten a 13600K or something if you "castrate" the 14900K like that .

I have an i9-13900K and the only thing I changed recently, more out of pure paranoia than an actual reason, after these stories of Intel CPU defects came up is that I manually set my PL1 = PL2 at 253W instead of ASUS' ludicrous 4096W (= unlimited) setting at PL2. I have never experienced any stability issues with my CPU, however. It has always been rock solid (since January 2023).

I game at 4K resolution so the CPU rarely consumes any significant power anyway and it usually stays at moderate temps between 55C and 65C in the vast majority of games. There are a few outliers (Dead Space Remake comes to mind) where it gets pretty hot but I have a MSI AiO 360 Liquid Cooler that keeps it in check in those rare cases.

Not sure I'd ever buy an Ubisoft game, the absurd HUD during the space combat was enough to remind me of that. But this still has me very interested, eagerly awaiting reviews.

Because Ubisoft employs fantastic artists and graphic designers, the video looks great. Production value is through the roof. Production value was through the roof with Disney's Kenobi, Boba Fett, The Mandalorian, and The Last Jedi too, however, and those were reprehensibly terrible. The evidence of quality in storytelling, characters, dialogue and gameplay (or lack thereof) is not here, so I withhold any opinion. As with anything Star Wars or Ubisoft-related, I can't even be excited, and I learned to stop saying stupid shit like "cautiously optimistic" about 20 years ago. When it comes to Star Wars and Ubisoft, I'm a grouchy, cynical, pessimistic asshole (so how is that different from any other time Ba-dum Bum!!) until they surprise the hell out of me.
