I've been playing Civ6 for quite a while, got into it hard a couple of years ago. I have the expansions for the new leaders but don't care much for the additional modes that came with them.. except "Zombies".. I play base version with zombies on huge map with "1 large continent", 2 steps higher difficulty from default, and can report that the random zombie outbreaks in my civ more than makes up for the AI being brain-dead.

I love me some Civ, always have, I just really liked Civ4 for solo play and modding. The best Civ multiplayer game was the original Alpha Centauri.

civ6 is ok but late game becomes a nightmare to mavigate your armies due to one unit per tile. The diplomacy is lunacy and the ai gash.

Civ4 is still my fav but each game is a bit cookie cutter.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I have yet to really find a good modern 4x game that I enjoy as much as Civ4, Sins of a Solar Empire, StarWars Empire at War or even GalCiv 2/3.

No love for Master of Orion 2 or Master of Magic?

For modern stuff - Age of Wonders 4 is pretty great.
I'll risk my non-existent credibility by saying Humankind is underrated.

I feel like GalCiv 2&3 had super terrible AI?

I don't remember GC2 too much now other than I got decent play time out of it. 3 was ok but I lost interest quickly for various reasons. Maybe if Stardock puts GV4 on GoG someday I'll get it there.

I think I played some MOO2 back in the day via a friend. I did uh, "try" 3 and it was pretty bad. I have the remake from a few years ago but not played it yet. I should get MOO2 on GoG. I have MoM apparently on GoG but I've never played it before. AoW4 looks good but the reviews have put me off along with the dlc pricing. It is a paradox published game unfortunately. I have aow3 and remember vaguely liking it.

I played a demo for Humankind last year or when it was released and wasn't super impressed. I only have it because it was in a humble bundle. The culture swap idea just didn't work for me. Old World was similar, I just couldn't get into it.

I did forget about CivNet. I remember a local game store owner being a big fan of it when I would go in. I used to play Civ1 on a 386 with only a pc speaker, it and Railroad Tycoon got me into 4x and management sims. By the time I had my own machine with a modem, Civ2 was out and the first game I bought for that system.

FYI: Civ 6 is 95% off in Steam ($2.99): I'll probably grab it.

It's funny. I have fond memories of OG WinCiv. I still fire it up once in a while (well done, devs, the game still works in Win10!). I think I played 3 but didn't like it. Never played any others.

I would still consider Civ3 the worst of the series (its expansion was the first to have multiplayer) but I've not put much time into 6 either. Civ6 just seemed too cartoony for me. Civ5 was better than 6 and I'm not a huge fan of it either. Civ4 is still the best of the bunch and the last game that used square zones instead of being hex based in 5/6. The only reason I have some of the Civ6 dlc is it was in humble bundles over the years.

I have yet to really find a good modern 4x game that I enjoy as much as Civ4, Sins of a Solar Empire, StarWars Empire at War or even GalCiv 2/3.

You're forgetting CivNet!

Personally, I've put hundreds of hours into Civ and Civ4, and we're into play again, would probably just load up 4

It differs from person to person. I generally only like grand strategy games that have a tactical element to them as well (Total War, Sins of a Solar Empire) and I never thought I would like Civ because its combat is very abstract. So I would try it and think, "it's okay I guess but not really for me." And then at some point I would look up and it was getting light outside. And I started playing at 9pm...

Pretty cinematic.....but no meat.

I'm not sure that they have what it would take to create an 'improved' Civ. That requires vision, creativity, and innovation.......not corporate focus on monetization.

I think it will probably be just another re-hash for cash.

Yuastnay, I'd say give it more time. Civ VI is a very expansive game, and it takes time to learn all her systems and idiosyncrasies. Early game civ plays quite differently from mid-game and even late-game. Maybe try playing a few scenarios to get a feel for things. Some people love the early game, others prefer the mid-game (that'd be me) and others late game.

Just give it some time and before long you'll be looking at the clock saying 'one more turn' just like the rest of us.

I don't know, am I doing something wrong? I'm not used to 4X games, I'm pretty much a newbie. I did play Stellaris for hundreds of hours, though, and I loved it.
I recently got all of Civ VI in some sale and I tried playing it... and was really underwhelmed. I became bored after playing for a few hours.

Maybe it's just me. The other only other 4X game that I have recently played is Shadow Empire and that game rocked.
Now we donce.

I still haven't been able to play Civ6 since they added that shitty launcher (or any other game using the 2K launcher). I know there are bypasses, but I can't be bothered because I have so many other games to play don't require me to jump through hoops. I just won't be buying their games anymore. I've only played one game of Civ6. I liked some of the concepts but they were not balanced well, and the AI seems worse than previous games. I had so many great people it wasn't funny. I launched the first rockets to the moon and Mars on the same turn by using the great scientists I had around.

I've been thinking about picking up Old World, I hear good things about it. Plus it's available on GOG, unlike Civ.

I'm still happily playing Civ 5, and haven't gotten to 6 yet, so it'll be awhile before I play this for sure.
