Out of the Blue

Today is the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944 that kicked off the allied counter-offensive on the European western front in World War II. The bravery of the soldiers is almost as hard to imagine as the incredible logistics the operation entailed. It's also worth contemplating how different the world would be if allied efforts had failed, if nothing else, as a cautionary tale.

Here's another answer. The word comes from the very first verse in the Bible (Genesis 1:1), written in ancient Aramaic by Moses around 1500 BC after the exodus from Egypt.

1:1. בראשית ברא אלהים את השמים ואת הארץ

Transliteration:

breishith bra aleim ath eshmim uath eartz

eartz = earth

Other cultures using the word "earth" is likely the result of being influenced by the Aramaic word. Side note: If one believes God inspires the Bible, then our planet's name was given by God Almighty himself which is interesting when you consider he has a name for every star. (Isaiah 40:26)

This concludes fairy tale hour

"The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance, is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality."

I dread having a flight with a poop emergency. You already stick 100+ almost always strangers into a bus with wings for several hours. Ad to that a terrible smell of the fecal variety and it’s a nightmare.

I collect star catalogs and atlases, and that one I do not have. I'm also not finding it in the Gaia DR3 cross-reference table.
