Here's another answer. The word comes from the very first verse in the Bible (Genesis 1:1), written in ancient Aramaic by Moses around 1500 BC after the exodus from Egypt.
1:1. בראשית ברא אלהים את השמים ואת הארץ
Transliteration:
breishith bra aleim ath eshmim uath eartz
eartz = earth
Other cultures using the word "earth" is likely the result of being influenced by the Aramaic word. Side note: If one believes God inspires the Bible, then our planet's name was given by God Almighty himself which is interesting when you consider he has a name for every star. (Isaiah 40:26)
