Out of the Blue

I wanted to get the chance to rewatch Mad Max: Fury Road before going out to see Furiosa. But I haven't gotten around to that, and dawdling on the current movie is not a good idea, because it sounds like it's going to close right away. I'll work on changing plans, but I may end up waiting to see this at home despite myself if things don't work out. Speaking of which, we recently watched something amazing at home that I should have mentioned for equal time when slagging Atlas. Over the Memorial Day weekend we finally caught up with 1917. I was aware that this is all depicted as single running shot like Birdman, but I was still not prepared for such a stunning technical achievement. I definitely want to see the "making of" features for this film for a look at how Sam Mendes and company managed to accomplish what they did.

Mad Max lost me way back with that Tina Turner one. For me it told its story after 2 movies and should have ended there.

The Matrix trilogy, while getting less epic with each iteration, at least had a reason to exist. It told a story and then was done. The Lord of the Rings trilogy, still my second favorite trilogy after the original Star Wars trilogy, told the greatest fantasy story ever written, told them very well, and then was done. Or at least it was, until someone got the idea to make those wretched 'Hobbit' movies.

Today, a story is not done if a studio sees more money can be made. Story? Who cares - we'll figure that out later. The trend started way back with Jaws 2, but has reached a level of insanity that has made me not want to see ANYTHING.
"The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance, is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality."
