Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord Released

Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is now available on GOG.com* and Steam, offering the chance to re-experience this fantasy RPG released in 1981 by SirTech in a modernized 3D form. The announcement notes how this pioneered the party-based CRPG and spawned a series that comprises a lot more titles than we remember: "SirTech published seven Wizardry sequels over the next two decades. In the years since, the series' popularity has persisted in Japan, with a number of additional sequels and spin-off games released only in that market. As of 2024, the Wizardry franchise encompasses more than forty titles." Here's the Launch Trailer and here are some details:
The first party-based RPG video game ever released, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord was a direct inspiration to series like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Digital Eclipse's revival preserves the appeal of the classic, with many upgrades for modern role-playing game fans.

Craft your own party of adventurers and head into the labyrinth at the behest of the mad overlord Trebor, in search of the amulet stolen by the evil wizard Werdna. Battle groups of challenging enemies, avoid hidden traps, and make your way deeper into the dungeon as you prepare for the ultimate battle: Facing Werdna himself.

Not even a token discount for launch? I started my first Wizardry game back then with Wiz 6: "Bane of the Cosmic Forge" putting a LOT of hours into it, and being stuck for long lengths of time when there was not a wiki or hint forums to help. I eventually found a CRPG Usenet group that gave some hints to allow me to finally finish the game. (A ring in my inventory was also a key, turns out)
