Star Citizen Free Fly Festival

Cloud Imperium Games announces another Free Fly event is underway between now and May 29th in Star Citizen, the crowdfunded space game. The game is free to download and play and dozens of military vehicles are free to fly for the duration in celebration of Invictus Launch Week 2954, which may be an Easter egg that a full launch is just 930 years off. This schedule is here to help with the process, and the FAQ is here as backup for any lingering questions. An Invictus Launch Week 2954 Trailer and an Ursa Medivac Trailer are a pair of new cinematics to help illustrate the following news:
Join together to participate in Star Citizen’s Invictus Launch Week 2954, the annual celebration of the United Empire of Earth’s Navy and armed forces and those working hard to support them. The top aerospace and defense manufacturers in the ‘verse return to Area18 on ArcCorp to showcase their latest vehicles and equipment to prospective buyers and curious onlookers. Visit the show floor where a rotating selection of manufacturers changes every other day to offer something new for regular visitors, with exciting reveals already announced on the first day. Industrial-focused Argo Astronautics have revealed their MPUV TRACTOR loader ship for solo pilots, an accessible and flexible cargo transport designed to make large-scale hauling operations seamless and efficient; and venerable shipbuilder RSI have lifted the lid on their Ursa Medivac, a six-wheeled light support rover that’s more than just a rugged and reliable vehicle, it’s a mobile medical unit. Additional reveals will be made throughout the event, and while players wait they can look out for new features this year including planetary fly-bys from a corvette-class RSI Polaris flagship or visit the traveling Idris-M frigate and explore its decks themselves.

Star Citizen will be free to download and play during the entire event, and more than 87 military vehicles will be free to fly as well, giving everyone a taste of the might of the UEEN. A variety of collaborative in-game events designed in the spirit of “One Empire,” and how each citizen’s individual contributions help create humanity's unrivaled power of unity that has taken it beyond the stars, showcase the might of the UEE Navy and invites citizens to explore the vessels that keep the ‘verse safe.

bluesnews commenters . . . write the same exact comments and tired jokes every time Star Citizen is mentioned.
It's warranted for a game initially planned to be a simple Wing Commander clone adventure until Chris Roberts saw the millions coming in and decided to change the scope to something unfathomable.

This has to be the most pathetic start to a game ever, talk about lame.
How many millions have been put into this and yet not one cent has been put into someone who is a creative writer..

The medivac video was better, humorous even.

This video isn't a "start to the game", it's just something for the in-game event called Invictus Launch Week. And yes, it is quite bad.

Do bluesnews commenters have Alzheimer's?

1. Any form of dementia is a horrible disease for the patient but also for his family and friends.
2. Because of the lengthy development, of course not only the commenters but also the faithful followers of the Cloud Imperium Church have become so old that dementia might have unfortunately become a problem for them. People got old with this miracle of eternal production.

star citizen is like a joke that keeps on giving. It is like trump peddling bibles that he doesn't believe in that include the constitution that he also doesn't believe in. It is amazing that you can spend $40000 on ships and if you don't get an insurance package you can have them destroyed. also amazing that for a $20 monthly subscription fee you can get early access to... early access. That is more than some MMOs, finished games with regular updates. Then all the skins, just the cheap ships, landers, etc, $5 - $10, and so on. Money grab are us. This game will never be done because finishing it would interfere with the business model of fleecing suckers. I'm glad for the people that paid their money and got their moneys worth. Lots of others of us would also like to play it, but the full game, not an EA infinite money grab.

I'm in for like $80 I think about 10 years ago. There's no way the game will ever live up to the hype it generated, even several years ago. It definitely has become a scam at this point though I don't think that was always the intention, at least not 100%. Milking die-hards by giving just enough carrot to fend off law suits seems to be the current MO. It really needs to be shut down, a movie/series made about this infinite loop of greed, and the whole story to become core curriculum for business law classes in the future.

supporting the company is great and all that, but the challenge will be if they get a working product out the door before they run out of money. everything about this project screams mismanagement and if the money is starting to dry up it will only get worse. But it's so much money, how could they possibly burn through it all? It happens. I imagine the people at the top have been living a lavish lifestyle countered by the expenses of endless alphas. We got to watch 3DRealms crash and burn because of a never ending project. This looks like it might become the same.

Sure and if you want a finished game you need to wait for it to be finished. Personally I find the alphas fun.

Huh. As I like to do whenever SC stories show up I checked on their funding claims -- and I was somewhat surprised to see their claimed contributions have been down significantly in the last four months. The beginning of the end? I doubt it, but not insane to think it might be.

Lots of negativity, if you don’t like early access don’t buy an early access game. Sure it is taking a long time and sure the scope has grown. I loaded the game up again more than a year ago and there absolutely is a game to be played. The slow frame rates are much faster in 3.2 plus the game crashes less often. The game is certainly progressing.
Many ships are available using in game currency which does not require real world money. Insurance isn’t in the game yet so that’s irrelevant and developer has stated on numerous occasions that it will be fairly cheap and be purchasable with in game currency.

^ Cultist in the making detected . Do yourself a favor and repent before it is too late...

Honestly, how anyone can find "what's there" even remotely OK given the history of the project, the original pitch (= mostly plain lies by now), the scope creep, the dishonesty, the insane budget, and the time it has taken to get where the project stands today, is completely beyond me.

It is mostly newcomers to the game who have not even followed anything that has been going on and who have absolutely no clue what they are even talking about. The consolation for us original backers is that -except for the hardcore cultists who have lost their souls and especially their minds to Star Citizen- pretty much every single one of you has seen the light sooner or later.
The vast majority of easily-impressed-by-flashy-shit peeps are on a honeymoon at first and then, with time, they slowly realize that they are married to a monster. You will see... (or not if you go full cultist, of course).

For me, SC has become a ridiculous joke--an actual parody of itself...;) Despite prodigious sums spent in "development" *choke* *gag*, I still can't buy and fire up a game. Because it doesn't exist, yet--the perpetual "yet" machine! For the first few years I was content and saw nothing to ridicule, as I thought the SC "club" was their business. Still is, but what a bad business it's turned out to be. Somewhere along the line the concept of a "game", followed by more games and expansions, has died. "It's dead, Jim." SC contributors must like the ride because they keep on paying; but a "ride" it is, nonetheless. If all developers followed this model, we'd still be waiting for the first "computer game" to ship...;) Amazing. This is not a complaint because I no longer care about SC. It's only a simple observation.
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)
