Assassin's Creed Shadows in November

Ubisoft officially unveils Assassin's Creed Shadows as promised, confirming the next installment in the stealth/action series will launch worldwide on November 15 for Windows via Ubisoft or the Epic Games Store, macOS, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, macOS (on Apple silicon), and Amazon Luna. Especially eager beavers can get three days of advance access by subscribing to Ubisoft+ or purchasing one of the three pricier special editions. A cinematic Official World Premiere Trailer is here showing off the previously revealed setting in feudal Japan and concluding with word that preorders are now underway. There's also a Who Are Naoe and Yasuke? Trailer and an Assassin's Creed Shadows Explained Video. There's still more on the official website and below:
Players will experience the intertwined stories of Naoe, an adept shinobi Assassin from the Iga Province, and Yasuke, the powerful samurai of historical legend. Discover their personal stories, meet pivotal historical figures, and shape the duo’s common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan.

As Naoe and Yasuke, players can master two complementary playstyles, with each character featuring their own progression paths, skills, weapon options, and stats. Whether they embrace Naoe’s stealth skills or Yasuke’s combat prowess, players will have plenty of ways to approach objectives. With Naoe, they will experience refined infiltration mechanics using light, noise, shadows, and changing surroundings to avoid detection from enemies. With Yasuke, they will be able to take on larger groups of enemies with brutal precision.

The game will let players explore a vast open world with a variety of landscapes evolving through weather and seasons. From spectacular castle towns and bustling ports to peaceful shrines and pastoral landscapes, feudal Japan comes to life with unprecedented dynamism built from the ground up with the latest version of Anvil engine and the power of new-gen consoles.

If I am wrong, then apologies. I based my claim on my conversation with the Japanese wife of my cousin. I'll do some more digging in Japanese culture (from Japanese sources) to see what is reality. The point however is moot, although I ended with it myself so I guess the joke's on me. Why is it moot? Because Ubisoft had the chance to pick from dozens of native Japanese Samurai legends, yet they chose the non-Japanese story. If that person was a white man instead, or if there was any other setting where it was a white man culturally appropriating himself, the "woke mob" would be very vocal about it. But when it's a black man, it's all fun and games. Again, it's this double standard coming from the lecturing horde of holier-than-thous which is hauntingly annoying.

What's racist about his comment, though? Feel free to prove me wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the same people who complained about the white chick in Ghost in the Shell (2017) and the white dude in The Great Wall (2016) are somehow perfectly fine with this. It's that double-standard that's pretty obvious to many. The black dude is put in this game for a very specific reason and if that reason needs to be spelled out, I don't think there's an honest conversation to be had here.

AC prides itself for historical accuracy as a backdrop for a fantasy tale.

DEI's reductio ad absurdum: A black samurai murdering Japanese natives, and he's the good guy.

There's hundreds of actual Japanese samurai legends, but they chose this one black dude that happened to exist as a sword-carrying show-piece and nothing more. That's the DEI agenda on full display. If you don't see what the issue is, just imagine an Assassin's Creed in ancient Africa, where you play as the single white dude clad in legendary African battle attire. If you still don't see the issue, then we've figured out you're not all that bright but at least honest.

My cousin's wife is Japanese. She was more than a little confused by what Ubisoft did here. Now she's just pissed.

Ill just say this, you know its pretty bad when they have to make a video to explain his past and try to justify it.

Honestly, I don't see an assassin running around in full Samurai armor. That just does not work with how heavy and bulky that armor is.

I like the setting, but will have to see. I bought all of the past games, played the crap out of Odyssey, but the Viking game, I really thought Id like it, but just could not get into it. Put in maybe 4 hours at most. So, this is another game Id have to wait and see and buy on a really deep discount.

I'm more interested in playing the Ninja, not a big fan of playing as a Samurai.

I can see the intent to make the game more appealing to western audiences.
Still some japanese are upset that a game set in japan does not have japanese protagonists.
As for the "woke" complaints, LOL, makes me laugh every time conservative snowflakes complain everything is "woke"..

I'm more concerned about the quality of the game and the storytelling. Ubisoft's last few games have been buggy, uninteresting messes IMO.

The black dude is actually a historically accurate person (watch the video where they explain his background). Otherwise, the historical accuracy -as always with an AC fantasy action game- certainly leaves a lot of room for improvement. I doubt that a slender built tiny girlie warrior literally karate-kicked the shit out of grown warriors during a time when combat was extremely physical, visceral and brutal. But who cares. It's a game, so what.

Oh well. The setting is not really my cup of tea and I'm disappointed that they have shown ZERO gameplay once again. Will fucking UbiSoft ever learn? I guess not. It still looks kinda interesting, although it's so stereotypical with the distribution of the roles. Big black dude = Brute force approach. Small tender Japanese girlie = Stealth approach. How utterly creative. Not.

Will have to see some gameplay first, but no matter how good that may look, I'm only gonna buy the complete/ultimate edition on sale one fine day, or maybe even not at all, if it looks crap and gets crap reviews.

he's almost certainly crying about a black dude in his medieval japanese soup. at my work there are, shall we say, a lot of similar predilections, and almost to a man they love to cry about black people and culture being uplifted. like somehow actual equality is infringing on their right to cultural domination.

You just once again confirm that anyone who uses "woke" as a serious word always talks about stuff they have absolutely no clue about and is just trying to be angry to have an outlet to yell their frustration with themselves at. Geez.

But hey, entertain me. What do you mean by "woke"? Please define!
