Google I/O 2024: New generative AI experiences in Search.

Uh. Although I'm not sure Google search could get much worse at this point. They need to bring back the option to put something in quotation marks so that the search engine will only look for that exact phrase or word. Lately, Google's search just ignores the quotation marks and buries you under amount of irrelevant junk. Or, if there's even a slight possible link to any kind of product, it will often bury you under endless pages of ads.

They need a "No! Really! Don't return anything at all that doesn't include this exact phrase. If you don't find anything, just tell me that." option.

The problem is, lately, they just ignore your options and give you irrelevant junk anyway.

That used to work. Now, not nearly as much.

Same here and as of now it's become REALLY good. I posted a question on a Steam discussion board the other day and 30 minutes later I searched for the issue on duckduckgo and found my own post as the first search result.

Funny how almost every example in the Google I/O presentation was packed full new ways to show you more adds in response to your queries.

The live video input thing was curious, can't wait to see all the related bloopers that will eventually surface once it is widely available.

Been a DuckDuckGo person for years, but Copilot is becoming my go to for research.

There's also perplexity.ai for searching, that's a thing.

Google search is still better then duckduckgo for coding in my experience - maybe also better at putting wikipedia and reddit results at the top.

Duckduckgo is actually bing on the backend.

I frequently end up having to use both. In my experience Google search still respects quotes, and "verbatim" mode does what it should. I get less SEO spam with duckduckgo search (a.k.a. Bing), but it doesn't have a verbatim mode, and you can't exclude search terms, so I still end up with a bunch of unrelated results.
