Out of the Blue

Happy Mother's Day to all who are celebrating. That includes us here in the US, but this falls on different dates in other territories, so your mileage may vary. Sympathies if this is a painful occasion for you. I'm fine with it myself. It's more than two decades since my mom passed away, but for me this is still a chance to celebrate her as a wonderful person, a great mother, and a great friend. I miss her everyday, but I have nothing but good memories that I continue to treasure.

I was assuming it was an insult of some kind, so I eliminated the chance it was Liquid-Crystal Display which is obviously something I am well aware of. If that is what he meant, it would be a pretty bad troll. Which I figured was a possibility too, but hey I have some spare time on my hands...

Tact, you’re being trolled. This is the same poster who asked if I was psychic when I said helldivers2 was not being review bombed because of the 177 countries that don’t have PSN, I even brought the proof with actual Steam reviews. Then he goes on to be actually “psychic” by saying the reviews did not mention that but that’s what they meant … because, you know … ?psychic¿

As for your answer, it’s Liquid Crystal Display.

Probably, but I tend to be pretty good at "suspending my disbelief". I do my best to remember the purpose of fictional entertainment is enjoyment. If you are watching/reading fictional entertainment and you are expecting realism, you are wasting your time. I mean, sure you might get it sometimes, but that's not the point. The point is the enjoyment. Just sit back, turn your brain off, and enjoy it.

It was dead to me after The Phantom Menace. I'm not certain I have seen the whole thing. I do remember the Luke's final fight with Kylo. That wasn't terrible.

8, for all of its flaws, is better than 7 and 9 combined. At least 8 has some interesting ideas, solid dialog, and cool visuals.

One big problem with nu-trilogy is the word-at-a-time problem. Abrams started it out one way, Johnson took it in a completely different direction, then Abrams yanked it back. Ugh. No consistent vision. Johnson is a very talented filmmaker, I'd love to see what he'd do with his own trilogy. Not sure that's on still though. Abrams will always be a hack though.

8 is a complete disaster. It totally ignores the original character arcs, tries to end a trilogy with the 2nd movie, has hilariously bad ideas like the turtle race of huge space battle ships and a long and useless side-arc on a casino planet which ends with letting slave kids behind but saving the space horses and... Oh, don't get me started. NOTHING about 8 is good. Absolutely nothing. 1 had at least the Maul vs. Qui-Gon and OB1 fight but 8 got nothing but total ignorance about Star Wars as the foundation of the movie.

Johnson should be kept away from other people's franchises. He is good with his own ideas but is an arrogant and ignorant prick when he gets to play with other people's toys.
I'll take Johnson's big swings over Abrams' poor imitations of the originals. At least there is some originality and character development. Even as I agree that the slow motion space chase is terrible and the casino planet a distraction.

I am still not sure which Star Wars episode I hate more: 1 or 8. I was shocked when I watched episode 1 for the first time in the last millennium. My (then) little nephew loved it and I was annoyed and sad because it felt like George Lucas was kicking me in the balls for roughly 2 hrs. The music was great, the fight of Maul vs. OB1 and Qui-Gon was amazing, and the basic idea (a vicious evil guy uses democracy to end it) was absolutely brilliant. But how that translated to the screen was simply horrible. The acting was wooden, the dialogues made me wish to become deaf, some character designs (like Jar Jar and his people and the robot army) were really, REALLY bad. Episode 1 proved to me that George was great at building universes and lore but should be held back from the work on details. George is a big ideas man. When it comes to turning those ideas into reality, he should take many steps back and give the plans to people who know how to pull it off.

The "Star Wars Prequels are better than you remember" line of thinking has been around for a while now. But they were every bit as stupid as you remember actually. They were utterly awful.
That is exactly right. Just because it turned out that they weren't *as* bad as the most recent sequel trilogy in no way means they weren't still bad. They just lowered the bar.

You nailed it!

RIP Roger Corman. His influence has always been underrated. His movies are pure gold.

Shame about how Lucas turned Star Wars into a tapestry of hate and derision against non-humanoid beings. From the xenophobic ridicule of machines with foreign accents or speech, to the outright portrayal of entire races of beings as buffoons and idiots.

Then Disney took over and did a 180, glorifying the different, and castrating all male roles.

If only someone like Roger Corman was around to give us entertaining space opera without all the preaching and hate.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride! - HT

The Dyson sphere story and entire web site has a real “Ancient Aliens” vibe about it. Also it requires registration to read the entire (possibly hilarious) story.

Not sure why it is posted under Science instead of Humor or something similar.

The prequels were trainwrecks in some ways, but they at least gave us some awesome scenes and iconic characters that live on today, like Darth Maul, Obiwan Kenobi (Yes he wasn't new, but Ewan nailed it), pod racing, the great lightsaber choreography, and more.

The Disney sequels added absolutely nothing of worth to the franchise, in fact they removed value from it.
