Redfall Development Ends; Hero Pass Upgrade Cancelled

An X/tweet from Redfall has the fallout from the studio closure news above, saying further development of Redfall is cancelled. As noted last week, players who were sold the pig-in-a-poke $100 Bite Back edition had still not received their promised rewards a year after the game's launch. Now word is this content is cancelled, and affected customers should turn to Bethesda Support for refunds. Here's more on the game's demise:
Today it was announced that Arkane Austin will close and development will not continue on Redfall.

To everyone that has supported the work from our Austin studio over the years, thank you. Thank you for spending time in our worlds and making them your own.

Arkane Lyon will continue their focus on immersive experiences where they are hard at work on their upcoming project.

Redfall players who purchased the Hero Pass as part of the premium Bite Back Edition or the premium Bite Back upgrade will be eligible to receive the value of the upgrade.

While there will be no Further updates, Redfall's servers will remain online For players to enioy.

I would say that the Redfall death counter has officially started, but except in extreme outlier cases, a live service game is on death watch the instant it goes live.

Wasn't this game dead on arrival? It came out to a torrent of terrible reviews from publications and actual players. I'm surprised it took this long to bite the bullet.

There's the kicker... They had been working on an offline mode, but of course now that won't happen. Thanks, M$!

It was ok, not as bad as many made it out to be, but it definitely had a lot of issues that could have been cleaned up had they patched it. The biggest 2 complaints I had were, playing Coop, and joining someone, your progression would not keep. it would revert you once you left back to your own games progression. Hated that!

Secondly, the UI mouse would screw up badly at times where your mouse pointer would be invisible or caught under the UI so you could not click anything to get it back or do anything in the menus. At times it would self correct. This was so annoying!!!

It was reported, but as you all can see, they didn't give a shit to fix it.

Cant say I at all shocked this is happening. They tried to shit all over the customers and thought it would fly.

It was, "bad" for multiple reasons: $70 base game cost AND a live service model to make money, horrible performance at launch, extremely shallow game play loop, exceptionally poor AI that often just did nothing while you shot it. I'm sure there are other small reasons but these were the major ones. Some things improved like AI and performance but the high price I think did the most damage. This seemed to be used as game pass sub inflater guinea pig.

No amount of Elmer's Glue could really fix this travesty IMO. It simply should have never been released in the state it was in.

It currently needs one seriously complete & massive overhaul from top to bottom. Unfortunately, that kind of undertaking without the massive sales that it needs to back it up... is just not in Bethesda's modus operandi. Only on in-house developed games are they a little more lenient. So I have no delusions that game would have ever been patched to an acceptable state. And even then... of the 2 newest games they currently have out, Starfield & Fallout 76, F76 needs that badly... but we're only getting small fixes here or there & not the overhaul the game desperately needs. They're just not known for spending that kind of money on something like that.

So if it was any other publisher in Microsoft's position... they would've made the same judgement call. Hell... I would've done the same within 24 hours of the games release as the game was a complete clusterf*ck on launch.
