On Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT and PSN

Seeing the writing on the wall, a xeet from Sucker Punch Productions addresses the upcoming PC launch of Ghost of Tsushima, as the Epic Listing and the Steam Listing for the DIRECTOR'S CUT of the PlayStation open-world action adventure each reference a PlayStation Network account requirement (thanks Wccftech). Aware that HELLDIVERS 2 is embroiled in controversy over the same requirement, the post notes that a PSN account will not be required for the single-player side of the game. But HELLDIVERS 2 has no single-player mode, so it's not clear how much pain this will save them. Here's word:
Just so you are aware, A PSN account is required for Legends online multiplayer mode and to use PlayStation overlay. It is not required to play the singleplayer game.

Sony did the dumbest thing possible. Gamers will hesitate and doubt whether to click that buy button for PlayStation games on Steam or EGS. That's going to cost Sony way more money than what they hoped to achieve through new PSN accounts. I don't feel sorry for them. They did this to themselves. Who I do feel sorry for is the developer caught in the middle of this nonsense.

Do you feel the same way about many Microsoft games requiring a MS account like MSFS, Halo, Sea of Thieves etc.? And how has it hurt Microsoft or how has it cost them "way more money than they hoped to achieve through new [MS] accounts"?

Or what about Blizzard (Diablo IV et al), UbiSoft, Take2/R* or EA? Are all of them bleeding out of their assholes?

Well they learned fast. Good, I was really looking forward to getting this game and now it looks like I will (when it goes on sale).
I'm sure the pirates will make sure that even if it did have PSN account requirement for the single game, the pirate version would not. So ethically buy the game and play the pirated version if that happened.

I have never tried Legends mode, as I *think* it requires a paid monthly PSN feature, but I may be wrong about that. I should give it a try if it doesn't; the single player game was gorgeous and fun and would probably be a riot as a small band of badasses assaulting big forts.
