Possible Q3A Glitch

A wee hours .plan update by id Software programmer Robert Duffy has word that of a possible issue with the full Win32 installer for the latest Quake III Arena patch (story). If you are experiencing a problem like the one he describes, take comfort in knowing it's being investigated (and if you're not experiencing a glitch, you probably stopped reading by now anyway). Here's the briefer than my introduction update:
I have seen a few reports of the full Win32 installer not properly installing the latest PAK3 files. Looking into this now, if there is an there is an issue, I'll get more info/fixes up tomorrow ( Saturday ).

DAMNIT! Ignore the previous post!

Here is the scoop:
If you are running Win32 then download the patch and install it to a temp directory (NOT your quake folder). Then manually copy the contents of this folder into your quake folder. Since 1.29f was a beta patch the pak6.pk3 asset file was not finalized. This is a problem for the "smart" installer which checks to make sure a file does not exist before it copies it over.

If you are running 1.27g/h or 1.29f then you only need the following two files to make your version 1.29g

quake3.exe (updated from 1.29f)
pak6.pk3 (updated from 1.29f, not present in 1.27g/h)

Yeah, like those ignorant "casual computer users" are playing so much online and are installing *beta* patches for Q3. I highly doubt anyone who could find out there is a beta patch available would have the slightest problem unpacking a zip file.

ZIP files are fine for technically competent gamers like ourselves, but a casual computer user won't know what to do with them. They're not exactly intuitive.

What happened to the days of simply providing a .zip file with the updated files? I mean, really. At least provide it as well as the annoying installer(s).

ohwell...

"if there is an there is an issue", where that first an is supposed to be an and.
obviously he just wrote "there is an" twice, when he only meant to write it once.

i think, the expression "installer not properly installing the latest PAK3 files" is very funny. the file i downloaded installed all six pak3 files. but they matched exactly the old ones. so it cannot be a bug in the installer, it just contains the wrong files...

I wonder if that is an accent or a typo:
"if there is an there is an issue", where that first an is supposed to be an and.
