I don't get all the hate
I remember one shamefully negative poster here that gave it a 3 out of 10 when the reviews and hype were still positive, such malice.
I'm sure Todd will do his ineffective big eared but deaf best, sad mf that he is.
It's a big, boring game that doesn't deliver any of the things it promised. The story is non-existent and what lore there is is boring, and what is left doesn't even make sense. Ancient temples within eyesight of human settlements that somehow remained unnoticed. Deadly aliens called TerrorMORPHS, despite the fact no one knew they morphed from heatleaches, which of course no one ever bothered to study either. Hell, part of the game does the cardinal sin of literally lore-dumping on you by making you walk through a museum as it regurgitates what little history the world has. But it's not really lore because they're just preambles to different quests in the game.
Leave it to Bethesda to design a game where the most interesting part of the story has already happened in the past, nothing you do really changes anything, and the whole goal is to just say "F IT" and ditch each world for the next one, losing any semblance of connection to the characters and your actions.
Besides that, there is no exploration. Space travel is just a series of loading screens from one skybox to the next, and planets are just random stretches of uninteresting terrain and the same handmade outposts you've seen everywhere else. In either case, RNG is the name of the game of what appears there, so you're never going to find some cool, handcrafted secret hidden on planet X. It'll just be the same variants of human outpost A, B or C that you've seen 100 times before. 2 of which will be the same frozen, abandoned biolab that you've already cleared 10 times already, if not more.
You're also part of a group that supposedly explores the galaxy, but you never actually go outside of known, settled space. Building ships is fun, but ultimately pointless because there's no reason to hang around in space because you can't actually go anywhere, the special ship habs don't do anything meaningful that you can't do anywhere else on land, and the space combat is terrible because against all odds where they ALMOST had a balanced system where lasers, missiles and projectile weapons had their own niche, that's all thrown out of the window with particle beams that do the job of all three better. And your ship is so slow combat just devolves into a DPS test on higher difficulties.
Honestly, I'd say it's baffling how such a big and well known studio can get so much wrong, but as we've seen from others like Ubisoft, it's not rare at all these days.
I guess Bethesda should have just designed a AAAA games instead of a AAA game. 😏
