Dead Island 2 on Steam

Dead Island 2 is now available on Steam following a year of Epic Games Store exclusivity for the zombie sequel set on the land-locked island of Los Angeles. The debut carries a whopping 50% discount for the next week. The Dead Island 2 SoLA Launch Trailer is a reverse tourism ad, showing you reasons not to visit. But for those not heeding that advice, here's what to expect:
A deadly virus is spreading across Los Angeles, turning its inhabitants into ravenous zombies. The city is in quarantine and the military have retreated. Bitten, infected, but more than just immune, you learn to harness the zombie inside of you. Only you, and the handful of other swaggering assholes who happen to be resistant to the pathogen, hold the future of Los Angeles (and humanity), in the balance.

As you uncover the truth behind the outbreak you’ll discover the truth of who – or what – you are. Survive, evolve, save the world – just another average day in Hell-A.

Maybe some trainer or mod out there.

As usual, I find my own cheat, do this, it's easy :
Open Inventory, take note of the Max Durability of a weapon you want to preserve.
At first, for easier search, pick a weapon fully intact. Example: game shows M.D. 36
Open Cheat Engine,
search Value Type "Float", value 36.0000 (zeros only if full intact),
whack a zombie, the curved bar of the weapon decreases,
search Scan Type "Decreased Value",
now run away without using the weapon, search Unchanged,
whack again, search decreased,
bigger than zero, etc.
Once you find the address, input 36 = weapon fully restored.
Tick the square to freeze the value, go whack all zombies !

When you are more used to this, you can find damaged weapons too.
First search "value between" some fraction of the bar curve of the m.d. value and the max durability value.
Then again as before, decreased, unchanged, etc.

And why not ?
Stamina is Float 100.0000 full.
Health is also Float (grossly rounded value shown on screen).

That is cool, but you didn't answer my question 😁

It's not the biggest deal, but it is strange.

Like story reason? and why and how the Virus broke out? Yes, its discovered during the missions you do. lots of story in the game. not bad at all.
His question you skipped was one that I've highlighted in a couple of the stories about the game, including this very one.

Los Angeles is not an island. Why are they calling a story set in the continental United States "Dead Island 2?"

Well, I kind of thought I did when I said its very Dead Island because of the game play and feel. I think you all are taking the Island bit literal and I get that. The game is broken up into Zones. They have limited open world exploring. Not as open as the original games. I think it is more about symbolism for the game name now.

That really didn't bother me to much since there are a lot of areas to go to and a lot of things to do and many side quest along with the story.

I'm actually going through the game again it is a pretty fun game.

Prez, I hope that helps!
Yep it does. The "Island" part has taken on a new meaning marked by symbolism instead of the literal. I like clever naming schemes (if that's what this is and not just adherence to the name regardless of context because it sells). I used to think "Godzilla Minus One" was just the standard random Japanese naming convention of naming something that has no real meaning but is catchy or memorable. Then I saw a movie review of someone saying that being it took place during and immediately following WW2, where Japan was soundly defeated. On a score card, it could be written as "Allies:1 Japan:0" When Godzilla showed up, Japan was being beaten again, so now the score was dropped from "Japan:0" to "Japan:-1. Or, "Minus One". That is kind of awesome to me.

Reading the description I cannot find any narrative direction that would justify calling this "Dead Island" , when it takes place in LA. Anyone play this yet? Is there any narrative reason that is not clear just by reading the blurb on its Steam page?

I've asked this same question numerous times on other Dead Island 2 threads and nobody gave an answer. Glad to see it was mostly answered here, lol.

I'm sure as long as it feels like Dead Island 1 gameplay wise, that's all that matters. As much as people compare Dying Light to Dead Island, having played Dying Light and 2, they were far too different from Dead Island which I preferred, for me to get into those.

No, they don't. and they are now reparable at the workbench. and something they added is a level up the weapon to your level as you are leveling. Pretty cool stuff now.

Thanks Blue!

It's not the biggest deal since I remember after a very long D&D campaign (I think it was over a year) one of the guys playing with me remarked that if we didn't enter a single dungeon, and we didn't slay a single dragon, could it really be called 'Dungeons and Dragons'? πŸ™‚

I said something smart and intelligent I am sure. I can't remember though...

I was just curious if the name had taken on new symbolism narratively rather than being on a literal island.

Dead Island 2 can get away with being called "Dead Island" because its interpretation of Los Angeles is completely quarantined and isolated from anywhere else, making it a "metaphorical island".

I've played it and played it Coop. We finished the game on EGS. and we had a lot of fun with it. was pretty long too. around 50 hours long, and once we beat the game we were only at 50 percent complete. They added 2 new addons but I haven't had a chance to try those yet.

But the game is a lot of fun and its definitely Dead Island, the game play, combat and feel are all there. Plus they added some new wrinkles to the game that are good.

As much as I hate EGS, there are plenty of other offenders if you own a game on Steam and have to launch their app as well (Origins, Ubisoft Connect, Rockstar) I don't own a Blizzard game through Steam, but I imagine it might need that too?

You just have to link accounts for Blizzard games. The B.net app is not required.

It is the same with regard to Epic here as far as I understand the situation. If you want to enable certain online features then you have to link your Epic account but you never need the Epic client. However, as Darks pointed out below, linking up with Epic is optional and only "required" for crossplay and some multiplayer stuff like certain unlocks/cosmetics(?).

If anyone is only interested in the single player campaign then you never need to link anything to Epic. It is really much ado about nothing from the not so bright Epic haters who once again fail to do even the most basic research. As always, they just decided to fire their uneducated hate drivel from the hip.

Either way, Rockstar has to be the worst one I've dealt with (account hacked, lost my games access) and yet has some of the most played games ever, RDR2, GTA4-5-Online, soon to be 6.
