Out of the Blue

I don't know why the NBA and the NHL seem to deliberately overlap, but they do. Each league begins in in October and ends in April, where we have now arrived. The Knicks played (and won!) the first game of their series with the 76ers yesterday and the Rangers kick off their series with the Capitols this afternoon. These two beloved New York teams have zero championships between them over the past 30 years, so its fair to say expectations are tempered. But you never know, right?

Hopeful Round-up

My 2 cents on Chris Pratt's house:

He owned it, it wasn't on any kind of preservation list, he had to get county/city permits for the demo, which were approved.

I will add, that from the photos, it was a butt-ugly example of modernist 1950s architecture, which is likely why it was never put on the preservation list.

I hope Chris Pratt doubles down and builds something the same critics absolutely hate. That would be wonderful.

I watched Late Night with the Devil yesterday and really dug it. I generally eschew watching "found footage" style horror movies because they almost universally suck (yes, even the Blair Witch). This movie, however, made excellent use of the format and was told well. Remarkable, given its rather paltry budget. No shakey cam, either.

Plenty of Canadians, including myself, don't give a fuck about hockey. Even though almost all of us had to play it growing up - ice and street. It's better than baseball, and probably on par with basketball for its dynamism, but they all pale to football. There are plenty of Canucks who love football way the hell more than hockey and wish we had us an NFL team or three. I still prefer track and field and Olympian style sports over mainstream stuff. I always watch the Diamond League when its on and am really looking forward to the Paris Olympics this summer.

Fair point. I just have never met any who didn't care about hockey in the flesh. To be fair, I also find basketball, football, baseball, and most sports boring as Hell. Love fencing, though, as I used to do it in high school and college.

Physics defying device yet asking for more funding without demonstrating what they says is proven to work.

I have a bridge to sell anyone who believes this. Also thrust isn’t measured in grams…. So unclear what they are claiming.
