Out of the Blue

'Foundation' Shakeup: David S. Goyer Stepping Back Duties on Season 3. The story of this show keeps getting crazier. The big challenge was supposed to be translating the sweeping book series to the screen. But they keep having problems simply keeping the cameras rolling. I wonder if Hari Seldon saw this coming?

Obituary: Canadian actor Kenneth Mitchell, who continued working after ALS diagnosis, dead at 49.

If it matters, I've never read the books (nothing to compare it to to judge how faithful it is), and it's hands-down one of the best sci-fi shows I've ever seen.

Regarding The Creator, it's very much a "meh" movie to me. It's three different story concepts trying to be jammed in to the same movie and it doesn't really work. The visuals were not enough to distract me from that. The obvious solution would have been to shoot the AI in the head. Doesn't matter what it looks like, it's still the AI you were tasked to kill.

I'm currently watching Pretty Things and I am finding it dull. Once the infantile glee of seeing Emma Stone's tits wore off, it just seems like a bad riff on Frankenstein with a fairly generic fish out of water coating splashed all over it.

Why wouldn't you be able to pass?

Clearly you've never been in a situation where someone is going 10-15 under and when you go to pass them, they suddenly speed up to keep pace with you or, more likely than not, prevent you from passing them entirely.

I'm not putting up with that bullshit. Foot goes to the floor, supercharger starts screaming and dumping 18 pounds of boost in to the intake, and that asshole is suddenly a rapidly fading annoyance behind me.

Your one size fits all approach to driving fits none and your weird obsession with fascist laws is troubling.

How about a speed limiter built into every vehicle that can't be bypassed...

<ahem> "LOL no". Kiss passing goodbye, or accelerating away from a dangerous situation, or keeping up with traffic as just three examples.

Why wouldn't you be able to pass? Because you're clearly not passing if there's a car in front of you in the lane you're changing into. And you can't pass on outside lanes anymore - at least here it's illegal. The limiter could obviously have a buffer built in to accommodate passing issues - but it you're sitting on someone's ass for 3 seconds or more, yeah it should reduce speed automatically or at least warn you you're tailgating so leave more room or it'll do it for you. And if you do it systemically you should have your license revoked because you're a danger on the road. Driving is a privilege, not a right. That's universal on this planet.

VFX artist Gareth Edwards does some really amazing visual work. I haven't seen "The Creator" yet but just from the trailers it looks amazing, even if the story seems a bit generic.

Wife and I saw The Creator last night, after watching that Youtube video. The movie is amazing and underrated. It was filmed for $80 million, which is amazing considering the sheer number of visual effects. It's only free on Hulu right now. I rented it on Prime for $6.

Best way I can describe it is Apocalypse Now meets Bladerunner, with some District 9 thrown in for flavor. The VFX Artists React video here doesn't really have any spoilers, in fact it impressed me so much, it made me want to see the movie. Watch the youtube video and decide if you want to see the movie after that.
I enjoyed it. And I'm pretty picky.
I mean it ain't total shit what with a B+ CinemaScore
67%tomatometer 76%audience
metascore 63 user score 6.4

I remember wanting to see 2017's Life (SciFi, triple AAA cast) and it had a C+. One letter grade makes for a world of difference. It suxor'ed bigly.

They had to change it and anyone saying they should have followed the books closely either a) knows absolutely nothing about entertainment or b) has forgotten too much about the books.

When I heard Foundation was going to be made, my initial reaction was "it can't be done". But then I thought about it for a bit and realized how long it had been since I read it. So, I re-read the first six novels. It only really took the first to realize it would be a horrid tv show if they followed the books closely. Asimov leaves a lot of the things to your imagination. Which when you first read it, if you have a good imagination makes the books fantastic. However, from an entertainment point of view, much less so. Do you know what the solutions are to the first two Seldon Crises in the book? To wait. Basically in both cases the characters in charge of the Foundation come to realize Seldon has foreseen what will happen and all they have to do is sit back, not interfere with it, and wait for the situation to resolve itself. While it fits the story, it doesn't make for good television.

How about a speed limiter built into every vehicle that can't be bypassed - coupled with sensors that will not permit you to tailgate or stop too close to someone? That would remove 95% of all accidents right there. Road cameras everywhere would take care of the rest.
