Skull and Bones Sets Sail; Free Trial Available

Ubisoft announces the full availability of Skull and Bones, launching the pirate adventure for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. This is a day some thought might never arrive after all the delays following the game's announcement in 2017 for a 2018 launch. There's a Standard Edition and a Premium Edition, and access to the Premium Edition is included with a Ubisoft+ subscription. There is the chance to sample the game for free through a trial version that permits up to eight hours of play. The note about the free trial says it's for this weekend, but also says the offer expires on 1/1/2300, in which case Bones McCoy may end up checking out Skull and Bones. The previously released Launch Trailer shows how you can make your bones as a pirate. Here's what this brings to the boarding party:
ENGAGE IN THRILLING NAVAL COMBAT
Sail the lawless seas solo or team up with two other players to partake in shareable contracts and rewards.

CUSTOMIZE YOUR SHIP TO MATCH YOUR PLAYSTYLE
Craft and sail up to 10 different ships at launch, each with unique perks to match your own personal playstyle.

BECOME THE MOST INFAMOUS PIRATE KING
Face cutthroat pirate hunters, deadly sea monsters, unpredictable weather, dangerous rogue waves, supernatural threats, and more as you explore a vast open world.

Remember folks, this is a quadruple-A game, the first of its kind for sheer awe-inspiring quality. Setting the new benchmark, the new standard, in interactive video game titles.
While not explicitly defined, let's define each "A" in "AAAA" for fun.

"A" for Ambition: This represents the game's scale, scope, and development ambition, pushing gaming boundaries in storytelling, technology, and gameplay.
"A" for Assets: Symbolizes high-quality game assets, including graphics, audio, and content, crafted by large development teams to enhance player immersion.
"A" for Advertising: Signifies extensive marketing efforts across various media platforms to generate hype and reach a broad audience.
"A" for Access: Symbolizes the game's economic model, emphasizing in-game purchases contributing to the total cost for players. It highlights the game's reliance on revenue models extending beyond the initial sale, including microtransactions, season passes, or premium content enhancing the gameplay experience.

If the fourth "A" represents the dimension of total player cost, there are many "AAAA" games available, both premium and "free-to-play." As gamers, we seek "AAA" games. We prefer to do away with that final "A."

Skull and Bones doesn't prioritize Ambition and Assets but heavily emphasizes Advertising and extensive Access. It leverages MMO features to tap into a "keeping up with the Joneses" psychology. Hence, SAB is an "AA" game, heavily relying on players' desire to visually out-pirate others. In essence, it's a psychological predator masquerading as a video game.
