Battery check
powercfg /batteryreport /output “c:\batteryreport.html”
One heckuva report

Run “PowerShell” or “Command Prompt” as an administrator

My wife's laptop was bulging in the middle, cracking the plastic and causing the touchpad to have enough room to put your finger underneath. I removed the battery and it was a pillow. I had never had a lithium ion battery pillow, but I had read about it and have seen pictures on internet. Unfortunately I couldn't find a replacement or get it to work with the battery removed. It was a cheapo Gateway so not a big deal.

I had to put it back in to get her data off so it miraculously still works but I imagine it is a time bomb. She is on a different machine but you just reminded me I need to get rid of the battery at the dump with the electronics I guess.

My Asus laptop is over 10 years old now and it has taken to just randomly shutting down several times a day because of the battery. I never take good care of my batteries though and definitely had it plugged in for most of those 10 years.

Battery issues abound around here. Of course we are past using a tool to check them. At least there is always another computer lying around
On my "new to me" dell convertible laptop, I was using it w/out the charger (I forgot to toss it in the bag) and it looked like the battery was ok.
And then this happened.
11:31:46 Active Battery 80 % 26,608 mWh
12:23:52 Connected standby Battery 59 % 19,619 mWh
12:24:33 Active Battery 59 % 19,562 mWh

13:10:17 Connected standby Battery 4 % 1,265 mWh

That's a name I have not heard or read in a long, long time. Did the box it came in have cow spots on it?

Crap hardware maker ONN bought the Gateway name. You can buy a brand new "Gateway" at Walmart right now. It's a massive piece of shit, I've seen ONN laptops that looked great on the outside but the inside was literally held in place with tape.

The box did have spots, but yeah it was cheap. I didn't have any complaints until the battery started slow motion exploding.

While vishing is obviously a disgusting crime, I am curious about who would fall for it: most elderly people I know are astute enough to know what’s happening.

Quite a lot of people as it turns out.
The comment wasn’t even worth a response, but thank you.

Anyone that would steal or attempt to steal money from an 85-year-old woman deserves a punishment that would cause Blue to remove this post if mentioned.
