Out of the Blue

Happy Super Bowl Sunday, the super bowl of unofficial holidays. I've said this before, and it's not an uncommon sentiment, but we could be talking about the outcome right now, because they should have played the game yesterday. The Monday after isn't a holiday, so having the game on Saturday would give everyone a day to recover from parties. So why do they stick with Sunday despite the clamor for a change? Because Roger Goodell gets paid $64 million a year to think the game gets good ratings because the audience on Sunday is inherently larger. You can see his point, the Super Bowl boasts 23 of the 30 most-watched television broadcasts in the United States, but Sundays comprise fewer than half the remaining programs on that list: Richard Nixon's resignation was a Thursday, the last episode of M*A*S*H was a Monday, and the O.J. chase and the Ali/Sphinks rematch were each on Fridays, traditionally the night with the lowest viewership. So I think this is an if you build it, they will come scenario and the audience would follow the game to Saturday if it was moved. I can't promise to make up the advertising shortfall if I turn out to be mistaken about this, but I sure do wish the NFL would give it a try.

Good luck Prez!

Oh, and all of you that typed 'Super Bowl' instead of 'the big game' need to mail Roger Goodell a quarter for every time you said it.

I was talking about wishing the SuperBowl was on Saturday nights just the other day. I really don't get why it's on a Sunday evening. We usually don't even stay through entire watch parties, because we need to get home and get settled, get the kid in bed, get US in bed, etc. That wouldn't be the case on a Saturday night.

My wife kept saying the same thing. The NFL brags about owning a day of the week, but it's February. College football has ceded Saturday by now.

I think the NFL enjoys how painful the Super Bowl is to East Coast people. The sacrifice that people make. But man, living in Seattle was the best. The Super Bowl was over by like 8:30. You were in your home by 9. None of this being up past midnight crap.

I don't even know people that have SB parties anymore. I think it's probably an "I'm older than 35" thing, but I feel like my parents did SB parties when I was a kid. And picked me up from ones with classmates. These days, work has changed so much that we all just need Sunday evening to brace for the week.

No real interest in the Superb Owl for any number of years. Just not my thing. I occasionally watch reviews of the ads after the whole thing's wrapped up.

Good luck on the nuclear stress test, Prez! I have a kidney CT upcoming, myself, among other things I need to get scheduled.

I thought it was a good game. Never cared too much about commercials, but the Arnie one was kind of funny.

The only highlights, commercials wise, was the ubiquitous Budweiser Clydesdale commercial and the Doritos Dinamita commercial.

I am glad KC won, though, just so the RWNJ will lose their shit for the next two weeks straight.

It picked up in the 4th and 5th quarters, when BoP first commented it was a snooze-fest in my wildly inexpert opinion.

Well I hope the 49ers win for Purdy if nothing else. Still would have rather seen Dee-troy-it or Green Bay in it and the Eagles - anyone but KC or Baltimore.

So, boycott Tesla because of its software? Not the fact that Musk is a traitorous fucking fascist? Is that what I'm getting from this guy? Fucking seriously? Unreal.

Wow, Carl died from atherosclerosis related issues? Must be something genetic because that guy was a fitness machine. Yet, when the cardiologist ran all the tests on me, and I mean all, he said my circulatory system was as clean as the proverbial whistle - which surprised the hell out of us both. Then again, heart disease has never been a thing in my family on either side. And I used to drink a lot, which keeps the pipes clean. And have been taking 1000mg of Omega 3's daily for decades now - which is also huge in that regard.
