Nah Starfields story is fine. I think it’s better written as a movie more then a game. The plot to starfield is not far off from Tom Cruise‘s movie Edge of Tomorrow. Where the protagonist loops time from a certain point endlessly. Except the movie allows him to change it up and break the loop . Bethesda instead writes it as you cannot break the loop. The loop is inevitable and always waiting.

I think they were going for the idea of how people replay Skyrim and other Bethesda games. You play to a point stop for a while. Months later you come back and make a new character and start it again. I think that kind of playstyle is what Bethesda was trying to encourage here. Not saying it works, just my take on it.

And trying to actually give a solid answer instead of „Bethesda bad“
There is not a single creative idea in Starfield's story, hell, it doesn't even do a good job of revealing the "big surprise". We all learn who the 'starborn' are in the most heavy handed and boring way possible: pure exposition, and we all know exactly what the unity is and what crossing it means long before it's even a possibility. And that's not even talking about all the plot holes and contrivances.

"Bethesda bad" is actually a very apt and well deserved moniker. I mean they have been dumbing down their games since Morrowind, so we might as well dumb down our opinions of their games: Bethesda bad.

Rimmer: “Step up to Red Alert.”
Kryten: “Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.”

There's no evidence of this, if there was Starfield's story would have at least have been interesting, if not completely full of holes.

I think there are good writers at Bethesda but their design process seems bureaucratic so whatever comes out the tail end will always be over-polished and devoid of life.

I know Jeff Gardiner took some guys with him when he left to create Something Wicked Games. They have a game called Wyrdsong coming out and it'll be interesting to see what they release.

Chris Avellone is too good quality for this ailing BGS to measure up and not suck.

My dreaded and despised Starfield updates Shame
Steam, all time score down yesterday to 66%.

When the top guy for the writers have to pass through doesn't know how to write and believes in Keep It Simple Stupid should apply to writing

Not surprisingly, it didn't gain much traction - I never got the impression Beths. was happy with FNV's reception (good and bad). - In Avellone's twitter thread.

More credence to how much Bethesda has seethed about New Vegas.

They didn't give anyone in QA that option. I'm damn sure I could've churned something up better than what we saw in Fallout 4.

Bethesda isn't going to move away from their practice of having interns write their stories.

Last thing Bethesda wants to be outdone again by Obsidian. Though it'd be amazing to get an ESO related game before 2028 when 6 comes out.
