Pete Hines, was asked if it would be possible to explore an entire planet after landing. His response, "Yup, if you want".
Reality: you are «trapped» in one of the procedurally generated landscape tiles, go in one direction and you’ll get a message and invisible wall.
Todd: "That moon (or other celestial bodies) is actually there orbiting the planet. Yes, you can visit it too."
Reality: Try to land on Pluto, you'll clip through it.

Lies by semantics. Yes you can "choose" where to land on a planet by selection some arbitrary point on the map, but where you actually land on the map is predetermined. So you really can't.

Sure, you can "explore" a full planet after landing, you just need to open your map and fast travel to the next cell over.

There are some good mods already, like one I used that lets you call your ship to you and land at your location, but modding teams are already abandoning the game because it's too boring.

i found starfield to be fun. I also found it to be the most polished bethesda game at launch that I have played. that doeant mean I didnt find annoyances of course.

I got my money worth but im going to wait for mods before I go for a second playthrough. I usually heavily mod bethesda games.

overall though, I see a lot of hate that is really just a bit of minor annoyance. The game is fun enough and not grindy. Perfect for drop in drop out play.

Microsoft actually delayed the game for a year to polish it more. Per the Gamesradar article, "Starfield had a much earlier release date before Xbox told Bethesda to take its time":

"Truth be told, when the acquisition closed this game had a significantly earlier ship date than where we're actually launching in," Spencer stated, clarifying that he was referring to the November 2022 release date. Spencer added that he then "sat down with Todd and the team," and explained that they wanted to give this team "the time" to finish Starfield

No one really cares WHY, they only care WHAT they received. Fixing the why isn't the customer's problem.

As for Microsoft being able to change this, I can almost guarantee that M$ was 100% part of the reason Starfield was rushed out in the state it was. Todd at this point is just a middleman with no real say.

Microsoft owns Bethesda and Obsidian.

Options:

- Let Bethesda continue on its downward spiral or remove shameless lair Todd Howard and put someone capable (get somehow Warren Spector, etc).

- Or give The Elder Scrolls 6 to Obisidian to make, and you'll most probably get a new BG3-like runaway hit, with people stocked from the day of the announcement.
Can you imagine a Starfield made by them with all those years, people and money ?.
The Outer Worlds was made in just 3 years and won 5 awards out of left field.

- Or let both studios make their own Elder Scrolls and watch the eventual carnage (Bethesda's, of course).

This is somewhat a social media problem. I can completely understand this guy's frustration, but it's probably way worse to have random assholes from all over the planet tweeting at you about your video game, and you are just supposed to sit there and take it? Of course these guys talk back sometimes to defend themselves against global criticism, deserved or otherwise.

Not asking him to apologize. Also not going to be silent because this developer (BGS, not this individual) has a history of taking silence as praise. And I don't want them to ruin TES6, so the message I'd convey to them is this: you must do better.

I think gamers are taking his xeet way out of context 😂 He's actually agreeing with everyone's frustration (that he admits having as well), but wants to reinforce the notion that if you don't work in the business, or on the development team, then you don't know why things played out the way they did (whether good or bad). It's that simple and he's correct. Sure, you can speculate all you want, but you don't actually know. Everyone's a loudmouth armchair-(fill in the blank) on the Internet. Why are people asking him to apologize? Apologize for what? 🤣

Aww, that's mean , Blue. Back in the day my main sites were here, Adrenaline Vault and Voodoo Extreme - I still miss Billy. Emil was a good editor. I always like his and Pete Hines work. And his track record as a game developer has been pretty damn good on the whole. I agree with everyone else however that this is way off the mark. The class move is to apologize, listen and try and make things better going forward. The whole 'Life is hard and you clowns don't understand our genius' isn't a good look on anyone. I think the problem wasn't so much from the design side as the production side. It sounds more like management was looking to cut development costs and started pushing for more streamlined crap like radiant quests and to just get the thing out the door. It's not like anyone doesn't know a game that's a mile wide and an inch deep isn't going to floor anyone.

What a baby. Let's start with a simple question, Emil. We all know that the most popular Skyrim mod of all time is SkyUI. So, over a decade later, why is Starfield's UI yet again a complete clusterfuck?

And we could continue this list quite a bit with very common complaints concerning EVERY single one of BGS' releases. Stop crying about "GAME DEVELOPMENT IS TEH HARD AND U DONT UNNERSTAND MEEEEE" and start listening to your fucking customers that you like to ridicule. It is this exact level of snobbish high horse attitude and arrogance and your complete refusal to listen and learn that is pissing off your players.

Is this a more polite version of "Fuck those Assholes"? I mean, he is not wrong. Gamers for the most part know fuckall about game design, but even dumbass gamers catch on eventually, if you keep on feeding them turds.
