Outcast 2 - A New Beginning in March

THQ Nordic announces a release date for Outcast 2 - A New Beginning, saying the Outcast sequel will be cast out for PC and consoles on March 15, 2024. Word is: "Get ready to immerse yourself in the captivating alien realm of Adelpha, uncover its mysteries, and enjoy the galaxy's wittiest dad jokes, skillfully delivered by our hero, Cutter Slade. Outcast offers a slightly self-ironic yet wholesome take on sci-fi themes and tropes, injecting a sense of fun into a planetary-wide uprising against ruthless robotic invaders." A new Combat Trailer is here to celebrate the news with a look at gameplay, and here's a refresher on the game:
Weapon upgrades, aliens and monsters (who can also be predators) - you will find all of this in Appeal Studio's and THQ Nordic's upcoming open-world action-adventure Outcast - A New Beginning! Play as Cutter Slade, ex-Navy SEAL, and gain the trust of the local Talans. Engage in guerilla warfare such as destroying enemy ammo convoys to weaken bases and freely choosing where to launch the next attack, shaping the success of the Talan uprising.

The stakes are high, though, Cutter Slade brings dry humor to the forefront, adding a touch of wit to the intense storyline. Rediscover the awe-inspiring game world reminiscent of the beloved Outcast 1, while offering something totally fresh and accessible for newcomers. Every corner is brimming with wonders and surprises!

Looks more like Just Cause in space than Outcast...

The first thing that comes to mid when I see the "Outcast" name is the memory of how good it looked for not requiring a GPU. I remember liking the first one as a pretty good 3rd Person Sci-Fi shooter, but the name sticks out to me for that reason.

It utilized that Voxel engine which was a love it or hate it type of engine for many gamers at that time. Sure, up close, everything looked like a pixelated mess, but from a distance, it could produce a lot of visuals without taking a toll on performance. I also remember, the water effects, considering it was like 1998 or something looked outstanding for their time.

Sounds good. This means that they will publish their roadmap for further development (next 12 months) in April or May 2024 so... winter sale 2025 is when I'm going to check on the status of this Outcast sequel. Gotcha.

This dev has gone through some interesting cycles. They picked up the IP and first pushed out 1.1, a more modern version in 2017, then second contact, a more modernized version in 2018. That was a surprise since I thought the funding had died and the project was dead. Anyway glad to see they are still producing content. Hope this one is as good as the original.

I originally read that as "Outpost 2 - a New Beginning" and I was like "Really? They're going to dredge up that particular infamy?"

Definitely has a more combat oriented look than I recall the first one being. Though I'll keep an eye on it. The original was quite a joy to playthrough in the late 90s. Had an incredible orchestrated soundtrack that would have fit nice in a Star Wars film. It had memorable locations and characters. I also picked up the remaster of it which was gorgeous, but retained a lot of the original including it's qwerkyness. Still a fun playthrough if you never played Outcast.
