Out of the Blue

I got a note yesterday from someone who was offered coverage here by someone on Twitch claiming to be me. They forwarded a chat showing this impersonator demanded money in exchange for promoting a game. The fake Blue's News account is using our logos and the bio says the owner is El Presidente for Life, so this is more than just a superficial effort. And the pitch is devious, as rather than promising a post here on the website, it was for an email campaign, presumably to explain why coverage a victim might buy won't actually appear in a story here. I refer to this in the present tense, because as of now the profile remains active despite my report. It should be apparent that something's fishy, since the account has never streamed on Twitch, but has a tidy 7.5K followers, which were presumably purchased. I expressed to Twitch my dismay at how damaging this scammer could be to this site and my reputation, and included the information to verify my claims. So I'm angry that this is still going on. I guess the next step would be to lawyer up, but this shouldn't have to come to that. If anyone has a connection at Twitch to drag into the matter or other ideas of how to escalate my report, I'm eager for suggestions.

To be clear, we've never taken a dime or any other consideration in exchange for coverage, and there has never been any advertising that wasn't clearly just ads. And these ads are brokered by a third-party as an intentional firewall between advertising and our editorial decisions. We don't do advertorials, infographics, three-way link exchanges, back-link placements, or any of the other sketchy stuff so common on the internet. All income for the site comes from these third-party ads, clearly marked affiliate links, and the generous support of our backers.
